I’m only 7 weeks tomorrow. If I decline now I will no doubt go to the bottom of the list.

Such conflicting advice online.

What would you do? Or have any pregnant ladies had it?

When I had mine, they asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant (I'm not). They wouldn't have given it to me if I'd said yes. So I'm not sure it's a choice you'll have to make (unless you lie)

Chutneywashisname · 15/02/2021 11:12

I thought it wasn’t recommended for pregnant women? They haven’t done trials to see if it effects pregnancy have they?

8dpwoah · 15/02/2021 11:14

This is topical- already a thread on it today! I'll see if I can link. Lots of frontline people seem to have had it, I'm not frontline but at slightly higher risk of exposure through work but I don't think I'll be front-facing much longer so I'm not going to have it at this stage. I don't think my risk is high enough to have it if I'm going to be put in an office on my own.

My GP said to read the RCOG guidance and assess your risk yourself 🤷‍♀️

PippityChippity · 15/02/2021 11:14

I personally wouldn’t as it’s not recommended for women who are pregnant. It depends if you’re high risk/vulnerable though? I’m 28 with no underlying health problems so it’s easy for me to say I wouldn’t have it in this situation! I might think differently if I did have something that would make me more vulnerable. Have you consulted with your doctor? There must be a reason why you’ve been offered it now?

Meredithgrey1 · 15/02/2021 11:15

My understanding is it is only given to pregnant women if they are at higher risk. So I guess it depends why you’ve been offered it? If you’ve been offered it because you’re very vulnerable then I guess your Dr might recommend it, but if you’ve been offered it because you work for the NHS in a non-patient facing role then probably not. I think you’ll have to speak to someone about it.

LJZRBB · 15/02/2021 12:09

Thanks everyone. I rang the doctors and she told me to Google it. Helpful.

I don’t know if my risk of COVID is greater as no doctor I’ve spoken to seems to know. Urgh I’m just disappointed I’m missing out on my chance :(

Although the baby is worth it obviously.

If it's not too outing, what's your job OP? If you aren't sure why you've been offered it you probably haven't got underlying conditions as you'd already know about it/them... although they have started today with the younger vulnerable people haven't they so could it be that? It deffo won't be because you're pregnant, it'll be either through your occupation or because of an existing health issue.

8dpwoah · 15/02/2021 12:31

Or a cock-up in admin I guess, you never know 😂

Amichelle84 · 15/02/2021 12:32

I had it and am pregnant, but I am clinically vulnerable and weighed up the risks.

LJZRBB · 15/02/2021 13:29

I am vulnerable I guess. Don’t like to admit it or think of myself I that way (stroke). I wasn’t asked to shield or anything.

I do have a high list bmi to, so I do think if I got COVID it would be nasty.

@Amichelle84 did you make the choice? Or did your doctor/midwife guide you?

OP posts:
Thefaceofboe · 15/02/2021 13:43

It’s not recommend for pregnant women, especially early pregnant. I would just wait.

LJZRBB · 15/02/2021 13:56

That’s the thing. It doesn’t actually say that!? It says to weigh up the risks. That’s the bit I’m struggling with.

OP posts:
Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 15/02/2021 13:59

Why don’t you really work at bringing your BMI down to try to reduce this area of risk, then it’s 1 less area of vulnerability to worry about.

8dpwoah · 15/02/2021 14:00

Have you got a source for that, @Thefaceofboe ?
This is the RCOG guidance and I don't believe it matches what you've stated there:

www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/

LJZRBB · 15/02/2021 14:01

Why don’t you keep your comments to your self.

Can you not read? I’m pregnant?

OP posts:
8dpwoah · 15/02/2021 14:02

@LJZRBB that will be why then (previous stroke) I expect. On reading that RCOG info again I think I might have mine through my employer before my third trimester if I can as that's when covid is the most problematic in pregnancy, by the sounds of it.

LJZRBB · 15/02/2021 14:02

Oh that was for @Iknewyouwerewaitingforme. Just want to make that clear.

OP posts:
LJZRBB · 15/02/2021 14:03

@8dpwoah thank you for your info and opinion. It’s a tough one. Think I might just let the coin decide.

OP posts:
DavidsSchitt · 15/02/2021 14:06

"Why don’t you keep your comments to your self.

Can you not read? I’m pregnant?"

Being 7 weeks pregnant won't affect your ability to lose weight if you've a BMI of over 40.

LJZRBB · 15/02/2021 14:10

@DavidsSchitt don’t have a BMI of over 40? Where did I say that?

All I said is it is considered high.

OP posts:
DavidsSchitt · 15/02/2021 14:31

"I do have a high list bmi"

With regards to being in group 6 this would mean BMI of over 40 to be counted.

As that's the group you're talking about maybe the other poster took "high list BMI" to be over 40. As I did

Teakind · 15/02/2021 14:38

Personally I wouldn't risk it in pregnancy as not enough is known about it. You're in the first trimester too when everything is fragile and being formed (rather than just growing) which I would think it's the riskiest time.

If you decide you do want it, can you put it off for a few weeks?

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 15/02/2021 14:42

DavidsSchitt exactly. OP yup -I know you’re pregnant, you’ve posted on the Pregnancy topic! Had nothing to do with why you’d have a very high BMI or equally why you couldn’t address this and look to get healthier- particularly if you’re so worried about Covid you’re considering getting the vaccine while pregnant.

LJZRBB · 15/02/2021 15:17

If you read the entire thread you will see I disclosed the reason for my invite.

Anyway. Those who have posted an opinion regarding the thread subject, which was getting the vaccine whilst pregnant, thank you.

I was only being transparent about my weight but if I hadn’t of said anything the tone of thread would have gone very differently I’d imagine. I’ll keep quiet next time.
