Hi All. New to Mumsnet.... was looking around on the net for some advice really. I'm now 28 weeks, and have been feeling baby move quite a lot over the last few weeks. Was lying on the sofa earlier tonight and all of a sudden she went a bit bersek... i'm now worrying whether babies can have convulsions/fits as thats just what it felt like.... Up until now movements have been definite kicks and pokes. Am I just being paranoid, and this is just a normal movement i've felt? If anyone knows what i'm talking about it would be great if you could help put my mind at rest as not seeing my midwife til next week and dont feel confident enough to phone her in case i'm over-reacting . Thanks guys....

please try not to worry this all sounds normal
if you can figure out how to use the search facility look up its under 'search for messages'
i am sure there will be lots of threads stating just as you do that baby has had odd movements
i have had a few pregnancies and can say - this does sometimes happen - particularly at your stage when baby is very active but still has lots of room
try not to worrry - sleep well- and welcome to mumsnet psamiad!

I would give the midwives a call. As pruners said, they will understandyour worries and probably have come across this before so can advise.....and everything I've read says to call if you notice anything different in the pattern of movements.

I've no experience as both of mine were normal kicks and prods all the way, but my sisters DS2 went berserk in this fashion after a power surge caused their stereo to switch itself up full volume. He then went quiet with no movement for hours on end, but was just fine in the end.

I had this a few times when I was pregnant and was worried she was having a fit or something. It felt like she was shaking and twitching. Bump is now a healthy 2 year old.

As Pruners says the midwives are great at reassuring anxious mums-to-be. If you are worried give them a call. In my experience they much prefer to let you come in and have baby monitored for half an hour than for you to be sat at home worrying, raising your BP and releasing lots of stress hormones!

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated!! Since posting the little blighter has started moving again (went completely quiet straight after her mad fling!). As this is my 1st successful pregnancy (miscarried at 5 wks just b4 xmas last yr) i'm finding it hard not to worry. I think i'll see what happens tomorrow b4 i bother the midwife. Need some sleep now! Night all, thanks again!!

Could be hiccups (the baby's, not yours) -- a friend of mine called her DH in tears insisting the baby had had a fit and died the first time he had a big bout of hiccups (he's now a strapping 6yo, by the way). DS's hiccups were more restrained but still quite different from his normal movements.

you are in sympathetic company, i had several mc before successful pg and plenty others around here have similar experiences.

My DS used to turn total somersaults at around 26-30 weeks, i still have the pg diary to prove it! it would take him 24 hours, but always do it in frantic spurts of movement and then settle down for a bit. He would turn complete rotations,he was head down one day, bum down the next, and spent a good while trying to redistribute my ribs. i could have sworn i had an octopus in there. It is such a wierd feeling, i think they can still move freely but it is getting a bit tighter in there - much later you just get elbows and knees poking out of your middle which is really obvious.

Having said all of that, contact your MW, see if she can pop in to see you or something, as it would be much better if you got things checked out especially if you are worrying.

take care

i too was gonna suggest hicups. ds2 had them quite violently at times. anoher thing i was gonna ask was if you had eaten something sweet at the time.

check with midwife to be safe
