19 weeks no movement

Hi ladies,

I am 19 weeks pregnant with my second baby. And cannot feel it’s movements at all. I am starting to worry something is wrong, and was looking for a bit of reassurance or advice.

I felt my first babies movement around 15 weeks. And very clearly by 18 weeks. NHS says first time mums might not feel any movement until after 20 weeks, but I’m a second time mum and I’m almost at the 20 weeks mark.

My last scan was at 13 weeks and baby looked fine with a strong heart beat. I don’t have any other symptoms - except I’m still quite sleepy by early evening and brushing my back teeth still makes me gag. My bump is starting to show.

Thanks in advance,

Could your placenta be anterior? I didn't find out until 20 week scan and had a freak out at the same point you're at. No movement until 22 weeks.

I think if your bump is developing then the placenta is the most likely cause Smile can always ask your midwife to listen in if you're feeling very anxious

Flittingaboutagain · 12/02/2021 07:31

Same here and I have been assured that it's not uncommon for it to be 20 weeks plus

If you're worried - definitely phone the MAU.
I didn't feel any movements until 22 weeks but I was a FTM.

Do you have your scan notes to check if you're placenta is anterior or posterior?

tytoalb · 12/02/2021 07:41

I had the same worries because I felt first baby by around 15 weeks and this time (I'm 22 weeks) just very vague flutters and bubbles. Suspected placenta must be anterior because the difference is so dramatic and this was confirmed at the 20 week scan.

WalkingMeAway · 12/02/2021 07:54

I would wonder if you have an anterior placenta too. It can make such a difference to how and when you feel the movements. My first was anterior and my second and third were posterior were such different experiences.

I don’t think it’s that standard across NHS trusts but on my 12w scan report it says where the placenta is. Have a look just in case yours does too.

I'm a second time mum, didn't feel movements until 24 weeks, still not much at nearly 28. Felt movements with my first at 16 weeks. Every pregnancy is different.

I'm 20 weeks and yet to feel movements, I have an Anterior placenta so I'm assuming it's because of that. My Midwife said you should definitely feel movements by 24 weeks

Thank you so much for all your responses. It’s reassuring that no ones got back saying it’s an omen for something bad. The responses seem to suggest it’s either an anterior placenta or normal for some babies.

I’ve just checked my ultrasound notes and no mention of placenta position. I have a meeting with my midwife today but it’s annoying coz it’s only on zoom thanks to covid. I have my anatomy scan next week so hopefully that will reveal more info.

@Izzymay no harm to discuss with your MW today. Good luck with your scan. I’m sure everything is absolutely fine x x

I just thought I’d report back incase someone else is ever doing a google search for a similar issue.

My placenta is anterior. The sonographer didn’t make a note of it and if anything I think I remember her telling me it was at the back - which was an error in her part.

I must be about 22-23 weeks now and I feel movement.

Thank you to everyone who commented, it really helped to settle my nerves.

@Izzymay just wanted to say thanks for following up on this thread. Here I am two years later googling the same issue, so many mumsnetters don't return to share the outcome so you're left wondering, but this was reassuring so thank you 🧡🥰
