Hi all, I'm hoping to breastfeed when baby comes but I have no experience as bottle fed my first two. I'm finding it really hard to wrap my head around everything and was wondering if anyone has any good book recommendations on either breastfeeding or just baby/feeding in general! I know there's lots of info on the internet but I want something i can easily read at bedtime and is quick to refer to when baby is here :)

thank you!

I know this doesn't actually answer your question (sorry) but I found this video on YouTube so helpful for getting my head around it:

There are so many simple tips in here that seem really obvious but I know I would get wrong if I hadn't watched this. I haven't breastfed before so I can't tell you if they work from personal experience but they seem to make sense and there's loads of comments from people saying this really helped them. I personally have found videos easier to digest than reading but that might just be me.

Mine is more of an anti recommendation - I read the "womanly art of breastfeeding" and really didn't enjoy it. I'm sure its horses for courses but I found it very extremist and pushy and had I not been able to breastfeed, I feel like that book would have made me feel like I had failed. It's published by the La leche league so it is incredibly baised I felt.

Womanly art to breast feeding

  • watch YouTube video of flipple technique
  • join local lll Facebook page now. The same issues come up time and time again and it gives you and idea about what is normal.

La leche run breastfeeding classes to help prepare you.

The KellyMom website was the go-to place for advice when I was bf (although this was a while ago...

kellymom.com/

Dr Jack Newman was also an excellent source of videos so that you could see what things should look like when they're going right: ibconline.ca/breastfeeding-videos-english/

And the Breastfeeding Network has loads of good advice plus a helpline: www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/

100% agree with the KellyMom website, it was recommended to me by a midwife and I've found it incredibly helpful.

Came here to say www.kellymom.com but see its already been recommended. It has all the info you need. I probably used it daily with my first.

Not a book but your local children’s centre might run a breastfeeding cafe (ours currently on zoom) which is lovely for that support with other local mums
