Covid and late 12 week scan - what to do?!

Hi everyone.

My DH got a positive test result last Tuesday so we have been isolating ever since (today is out last day). My 12 week scan was booked for last Friday 5th feb which I obviously had to reschedule. I would have been 12 +6 according to my dates but 13 +2 according to a private scan we had at 11 weeks.

My new scan date is tomorrow where I will either be 13 +6 or 14 +2 so I’m pretty sure the lady on the phone when I rearranged said that’s the cut off for the tests they do where they measure the baby.

Now sorry if this is TMI, but last night I was feeling very sick and this morning I’ve had a poorly tummy if you know what I mean! Blush Although I know this isn’t a symptom on the NHS website for covid I’m a little concerned. I’m unsure what to do, it might just be that I’m really anxious about the scan tomorrow and it’s making me feel sick. I’ve got none of the NHS symptoms, only what I’ve just said. Do I go for the scan? If I cancel I won’t be able to have the tests done and I think I will be even more anxious for a longer wait!

Sorry for the long post! I am probably overthinking this I know but I don’t want to endanger anyone and be careless! Thank you

I am in the same boat here, I am feeling achy and unwell today including a bad tummy, and my '12 week scan' is tomorrow, but it would actually be 13+5 based on an earlier private scan. I am a little less concerned because I had the NIPT test with a clear result, so if I still feel bad tomorrow I won't go.

In your case, I would call and speak to the hospital, and maybe get a covid test as well (for your own peace of mind). If you can't have the scan before 14 weeks, there are other ways they can assess the baby's health (you could have the 'quadruple' blood test, which they offer on the NHS after 14 weeks, or you could go privately and have the NIPT/Harmony test). It's probably worth not spreading Covid to other mums at the hospital if you feel unwell, as there are other options and they can reschedule your scan?

Hope you feel better soon xx

@Magik01 ohh that's a really tricky situation. I would call where you are having your scan and explain. You'd be really upset if you went in for your scan and found out someone had been in before you knowing there's a risk they may have Covid. I'm fairly certain other tests can be done later for the screening if you miss the cut off. Just call and explain and see what they think is best :)

You can still have the blood tests for screening after the 14 week cut off.
Hormones can be a cause of tummy upset as can stress. They say not to go in if you have "covid symptoms" but you can give them a call and ask, if they think it's better to rearrange then do that.
