Hi

Heres the question, my DH has a work college whos DW waters hae just broken so we are expecting an new arrival.

I hardly know them and our only really contact is that my DH works with this guy.

They are having a boy.

So what do we buy them as a present?

They live in a caravan so nothing to big.
She is vegitarian, OH is not.
They are fairly new age.

I personally hate buying baby clothes as I think every one does that!

I normally do up a box with bits and pieces for both the baby and the new mum. Picture frames, candles, nice toliteries couple of toys. Etc But I hardly know this women and have no idea of her taste or what she would like. Plus its normally quiet expensive which is fine for close friends but don't really want to spend that much on a college.

Our thoughts are Box of Choccies and Bottle of Wine. But that seems borring.

Suggestions please, what would you like?

Got a lovely tin of cup cakes and muffins when DC1 was born. It was one of my favourite presents, and the tin was really nice too so still useful! Also the cakes were just what I needed having just had a baby and handy to feed to visitors etc.

I have bought lovely toiletries from Dr Hauschka for a new mum, went down well.

How about a fancy card stating an offer to baby sit ( when baby is a bit older0 so new mummy and daddy can go out for a nice organic meal.

mazzystar · 01/11/2007 18:27

bake them a cake
and maybe some nice mum/baby toiletries too - burts bees is lovely

StaryNightSky · 01/11/2007 18:29

Would happilly offer to baby sit.

But we are moving and they are moving soon too!

I've alsway thought it is nice to buy something for mum rather than baby.

Kind of like the idea of a tin of cakes.

They only have a shower no bath.

Keep the ideas comming

How about a voucher for an aromatherapy massage with a local aromatherapist/beautician.

After a few weeks of screaming baby she may welcome an hours pampering away from the little one. This would ber a perfect excuse for her dh to babysit for an houror so

Ok, now does the cake / muffins / brownies / etc have to be home made. (I can cook used to be a chef) or can I buy a nice selection from somewhere posh like waitrose repackage in a nice tin and hey presto? Particularly as I have NO idea what sort of cakes she would like!

i usually make cakes or a meal for new parents - maybe a veggie lasagne that they could heat up quickly to save a couple of nights of cooking?

MrsBadger · 01/11/2007 19:03

any cake is good cake
ones from farmers' markets or farm shops tend to be particularly good, ime, or from a bakery, but Waitrose would be fine. Don't feel you have to buy a selection or anything.
