Going to start TTC but worried about standing too long

Hi all

I have been lurking here and so excited to see so many people getting their BFPs!

I am also going to start trying soon.. However I'm worried that when I do get pregnant, I'll be standing up pretty much 8 hours a day, maybe less (am in education profession) for the first 3 months if I get pregnant straightaway.

The reason for my excess worry is due to a previous loss at 19 weeks. I know nothing can stop a miscarriage if its meant to be, but I just want to take every precaution possible.

By the way, I don't want to wait any longer to try hence I'm asking. It didn't take long to get pregnant first but you never know. I'm just making sure I am being careful.

I don't know what I'm asking really... Just wanting to get other people's opinion on how they coped while pregnant after loss and working.

Thanks

Is it impossible to work while sitting at least some of the time? Say you need a chair for health reasons.

Crikeycroc · 11/02/2021 04:34

I’m so sorry for your loss. Did you have any testing or explanation as to what caused it? Generally standing for long periods would not cause a miscarriage. I worked in an active job on my feet from conception up to 36 weeks without complications. I actually found that standing and being active helped take my mind off how nauseated I felt in the first trimester.

Mysleepingangel · 11/02/2021 07:26

@anniebu yes I'll be able to sit maybe for a bit but because its training I'm doing, I'd have to tell them why etc. Especially with covid it's hard to make spaces in classrooms.

@crikeycroc thank you.

My issue is to do with my cervix, it's weak. And hence why I'm so scared of putting pressure on it too much by standing... I was also very active and barely felt the nausea

I'm so sorry for your loss. Regardless of why the loss happened, pregnancy after a loss is hard and filled with doubt and worry. If they identified that your cervix is weak they will likely suggest a stitch in it. You would probably be advised on exercise (including prolonged standing) that is or isn't advised. The only thing you can really do is cross the bridge when you get to it and as soon as you fall pregnant, get in touch with your GP and ask for a referral ASAP to speak to an Ob/Gyn consultant to check what you need to do.

@swishswashswoosh

Thank you.

I will be consultant led because yes, I'll have a stitch in after 12 weeks (I should be at home ft after 1w weeks) and he's not alluded that I'll have to rest full time.

I'm just worried myself because I'm just panicking at the thought of putting myself at more risk.

Should I just follow what the consultant says on my work/standing?

The less extra worry you can have the better so yes, follow your consultants advice. Equally don't be shy about asking questions and making sure they know how worried you are, that in itself they may be able to help with.

@swishswashswoosh

Thank you, I will do.

I fell pregnant last summer after 2 MMC. Due to my history and the risk of covid, I told my managers very early on. They have to write a risk assessment for pregnant ladies so it was included in mine that I could sit down at work as/when needed.

Mysleepingangel · 11/02/2021 14:30

@husbandcallsmepickle

Thanks for that.

I feel I might have to let my teacher/senior leadership team know when I do fall pregnant. Otherwise I'd be at my wit's end!

Thank you for sharing your experience. It helps

I'm sure the reason that they don't put a stitch in before 12 weeks as the weight of the baby is negligible before that point and so your cervix can easily cope, whether you're standing or not. But I'd definitely ask your consultant and then work will have to make provisions for you if it is a problem. I also had two miscarriages and am 16 weeks now, so I know it's scary.

Mysleepingangel · 12/02/2021 13:20

Thanks @notalwaysalondoner.
That's what I keep telling myself.

I'll have to ask when the time comes. Thank you.
I wish you all the best and congratulations!

Did you have late miscarriages?? How are you coping?

You could always say you need to sit because of a bad back? That should be a good reason that no one would question? But you might find telling someone might make it easier? I’m a science teacher and was worried about using chemicals etc so telling my technician was a massive weight off my shoulders as I could ask her everything and I knew I had someone else looking out for me! X

Mysleepingangel · 12/02/2021 23:00

Thanks @katiemumma20 that's a good point.

I think I might tell my class teacher/TA so that she's aware. Hopefully they'll be understanding given my past situation.
