If you’re under 12 weeks and see a bargain would you get it anyway or wait? I wouldn’t get a lot but keep seeing bits and pieces and think it would be helpful to get them now so it’s less to think about later on.

You buy when you fancy buying. I understand why people tell you to not go crazy buying items in the early weeks due to potentially miscarrying and then having all the reminders, however, it’s up to you. I bought a few things at 8 weeks because the offers were just too good! I’m almost 26 weeks now and have everything but the pram. There’s no right or wrong answer but all I’ll say is, some offers are too good to miss!

I bought a little toy at 11 weeks. I'd had 2 early scans so was feeling good about things. Ds is 2 and a half now and has to cuddle the toy every night so it's definitely something special now Smile

Properly started buying stuff after the 20 week scan.

Thefaceofboe · 09/02/2021 16:31

I bought a little comforter and a book the day we found out just as a reminder of the baby (whether it sticks or not, it’s still something we want to remember). We have a reassurance scan at 8 weeks so will probably buy a few things but not go mad.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/02/2021 16:33

I bought officially after 20 weeks but if I happened to see something before then I thought "will I be gutted if this is out of stock after 20 weeks?" And if the answer was yes, I bought it.

SunnySideUp2020 · 09/02/2021 16:34

Wouldn't buy anything big before 20w.
But little items or clothes why not!!!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/02/2021 16:35

Oh, and a friend of mine bought 2 packs of wet wipes every time she went food shopping throughout her whole pregnancy. She was well stocked by the time baby arrived.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 09/02/2021 16:35

I’ve bought bits and pieces throughout.
I don’t believe in superstition, and also I decided that if I were to have a miscarriage I didn’t think I’d be more upset about it because I had baby things in the house.

Edelweiss2020 · 09/02/2021 16:50

I’m 23 weeks and have bought little things since about 10 weeks. In laws wanted to buy the car seat so we chose that and that’s here but we are going to get the cot at about 36 weeks, and are going to wait til baby is here to get the pram, have got a sling and will get a carrier too. I like being organised so have everything we need planned out in lists and budgeted out for, but only because it’s something to focus on and do!

If you want to get things, do it :)

ChillyB · 09/02/2021 16:58

I bought things about 25 weeks but I had HG so wasn’t really able to do anything up until about that point as I was bed bound with it.

Re: buying things like wipes I would put the money aside instead because you don’t know what your babies skin is going to be like. I couldn’t use disposable baby wipes on my son as he has very sensitive skin and they’d cause nappy rash. Cotton wool and water and then reusable wipes was the only thing that didn’t cause it.
Likewise certain brands of nappy were no use to us.

I think just do what feels right for you :) I'm 15 weeks with my first and I haven't bought anything yet. I'm probably going to hold off until our 20 week scan as that's what I feel comfortable with, although we are hoping to book a private gender scan at 17-18 weeks, so I may cave and buy a few little bits after that!

BlueberryPancake21 · 09/02/2021 17:42

I started buying very late (nothing at all before 28 weeks) but I've had two losses (both before 12 weeks but painful nonetheless). Personally, every time I found anything related to my lost babies it brought everything back and I would grieve all over again. I somehow managed to hide things all over the house because at the time I wasn't ready to throw away but didn't want to look at it - should've put it all together in one place then it wouldn't have been an issue!

Obviously very unlikely to be bad news and do what's right for you - if you're excited go for it! Hold onto that excitement - it is precious.

Mytinyman · 09/02/2021 18:38

I heard the heartbeat last week and then went out and bought little bits and bobs. Even though i saw the baby at 12 weeks, hearing the heartbeat at 16 made it finally feel real for me

notalwaysalondoner · 09/02/2021 19:19

I'm not buying anything until after 20 weeks. Having had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks I was so so glad I hadn't bought anything. Even the couple of pregnancy books I'd bought were a horrid reminder, having to put them away. With Facebook there's so much easily available these days it's not like you need to buy early to get a bargain. Even after 20 weeks I think I'll feel nervous.

LauraT94 · 09/02/2021 19:43

I started buying cloth nappies on good deals before I was even pregnant! I then got pregnant, miscarried in Jan and am continuing to buy stuff while I TTC my rainbow baby ❤️

Off to pick up a snuzpod3 for £50 tomorrow!

NatBa · 10/02/2021 12:16

My partner bought a stroller the day we found out we were pregnant 😂😂 but it was a really good deal in his defence

EmmaR94x · 01/09/2021 12:27

I'm currently 22 weeks and 2 days pregnant with DCDA twin boys. When did you all have your nursery ready with cots and furniture etc? When did you buy your prams? i had my 20 week scan last week and it went amazing. I have my growth scan on 13th September when I'll be 24 weeks

ToniMuir · 18/02/2023 17:49

This is an old thread, I know, but I would start buying before 12 weeks! My wife and I (lesbian couple) are expecting our first baby, she's currently 4+2 weeks and I already want to start buying!

Yourteaisgettingcold · 18/02/2023 19:45

Other than the pram I got in a black Friday sale, I've only just started buying stuff and I'm 30 weeks. Only really because I don't want to have the stuff lying around for ages before it's needed. I don't see why you shouldn't buy stuff sooner if you see an absolute bargain or something you don't think youll find again though.
