My friend also gave birth 6 weeks early - the baby had to stay in hospital for 2 weeks but they were both fine. Hope everything's ok!

ChipButty · 01/11/2007 13:19

She will be fine and the baby will be fine. Try not to worry. (Our DD was born 11.5 weeks early but she's a lively 2 year old now). Please keep us informed. CB XX

MamaMaiasaura · 01/11/2007 13:21

At 34 weeks the baby stands an excellant chance of survival. Hope everything goes well. Keep us updated x

Am due 31st Dec here so is scarey the idea of them arrived before they are cooked. 34 weeks gestation though is really positive and she really should be fine.

I had ds1 at 38 weeks and apparantly is likely this one will come even sooner.

rdk · 01/11/2007 13:58

i had my dd 6 weeks early and she 3 1/2 now she was fine and was a good weight too she was 6 14 when born and came home with me the nx day so dont worry they will be fine.keep us posted

Sarahjct · 01/11/2007 14:06

My niece was born at 34 weeks weighing 6.6. She spent a couple of weeks in SCBU until they were happy with her feeding and that was that. She's now 20 months and looks like Pansy Potter the Strongman's dotter!

sugar34plum · 01/11/2007 14:10

my dd1 is now 11 and was 9 wks prem weighing 3lb 3 and my ds2 was 10 weeks prem and only weighed 1lb 14 oz his 5 now and both fine. Im sure your friend and her baby will be fine. Please let us know she is ok will be thinking of her x

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/11/2007 14:10

My DTDs where born at 27wks and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. 34wks is v v v v v different to 20wks (20wk is essentially a miscarriage, 23/24wks is the earliest any baby has survived).

SGKs Callum was born at 33+ something and was home within 10days IIRC.

Baby should be able to breath unaided - or need minor support. The main problems are likely to be establishing feeding and being a bit small IME.

They may try and stop labour, I think they can attempt that up to 3cm.

skibump · 01/11/2007 14:12

Good luck to your friend and her baby. Another positive story, a friend of mine had her dd 7 wks early and she was only around 3lb, but after a couple of weeks in scbu she was fine, and now a perfect 2yr old. Fingers crossed for them both

Any news Rosebud?

rosebud1980 · 02/11/2007 12:33

hiya i got a text last night to say there were no new developments and theyve just admitted her to a ward. Not sure what this could mean......

OP posts:
MamaMaiasaura · 02/11/2007 12:34

I would think sh ewas being kept for observation. No new developments would probalby mean she hasnt dilated any further and that she isnt in active labour. From what you have said certainly sounds positive x

needahand · 02/11/2007 12:42

Hopefully at 34 weeks baby should be fine. I went into premature labour with DD at 32 weeks. They also put me in a ward so that I could have two injections of steroid to develop DD's lung. They also tried to stop the labour an succeeded (and I was then overdue). So there might be a chance your friend won't have her baby just yet, but I agree with all the other posts that baby should be fine. There is a big big difference between 20 and 34 weeks.

Although your post has now worried me bec I read somewhere that if you went in prem labour, the chances of it happening again are quite strong. I have been worried that will happen again this time and your friend's experience seems to indicate so...

Good luck to her (sending lots of positive thoughts to your friend). Let us know how it goes

LiegeAndLief · 02/11/2007 13:22

I had my ds at 34 weeks - the doctor told me that at 34 weeks the baby has the same long term prospects as a baby born at term, they will just need a bit of extra care at the beginning. As other posters said, very very different to 20 weeks. Ds now 15 months, perfect in every way (of course ) and, according to his file at nursery, "well-nourished" . She will probably find it a bit tough initially when her baby is in hospital - coming home without ds was really horrible - but they should both be absolutely fine if the baby comes now.

leesmum · 02/11/2007 13:40

hi rosebud hope your friend is ok

I had ds at 35 weeks, he weighed 5lb 12oz and we were both home the next day.

Good luck for your friend xx

needahand · 03/11/2007 17:12

Hi Rosebud

Any news from your friend yet?

ale233 · 03/11/2007 17:53

Hi, my waters broke at 34 weeks with my daughter and I had her 3 days later, it gave them chance to give me steroid injections for her lungs. She weighd 4lb 11 oz and was fine, needed no special care and had no breathing problems. Im sure your friend will be fine. Now pregnant with number 2 and 4 days overdue so not always the case that your second will also come early!!!

rosebud1980 · 03/11/2007 18:45

no news yet apparently her waters were bulging when they examined her and she was 3 cm's dialated so it looks like shes staying in for bed rest until the babies ready.I think because of her previous history they want to extra cautious.

looneytune · 03/11/2007 22:49

Hopefully she'll be just fine. I childmind 2 sisters, first was 8 weeks early and the other 5 weeks early - they are just fine

Fingers crossed, I can understand why you'd be worried but I think there's quite a difference between going into labour at 20 weeks to 6 weeks early. Fingers crossed x
