Keeping track of movement

Hi all FTM I've just reached 24 weeks and I think it's now that I'm meant to start keeping tracks of kicks but I'm not sure the best way?

Am I meant to write down the times of day he kicks or just make sure I can feel him at some point?

I know there's kick counter apps but I'm not sure they are any good

Thanks for your help 💙

The best thing to do it just note down the times really.
I've never written them down but know roughly what times of day they move about. Like normally after eating, in the evening. Things like that

I think the current theory is that pattern rather than individual kicks is what is key. So I know that I often feel baby move in certain positions, after food, in the bath etc.

The 10 kicks in an hour is completely outdated too.
So don't pay attention to that. Because for some babies, less than that in a hour is normal but with mine, if I counted 10 in 1 hour, it would be completely out of the ordinary and I wouldn't have noticed something wrong with my second.

@SnooperTrooper12345 @sylbunny thank you think I'll just try and keep a note for the next week see if I can see a pattern

My baby didn't get into a pattern until around 28 weeks

ShalomToYouJackie · 09/02/2021 18:02

NHS say there's no pattern until 28 weeks so I wouldn't worry yet

Pinkblueberry · 09/02/2021 18:11

Mine never had a noticeable pattern. And at work I would never notice! As long as I felt some movement every hour or so while lying on the sofa I felt ok about it. I’ve never heard of having to note them down - I think you just naturally realise what’s usual and normal for you.

@SnooperTrooper12345 @ShalomToYouJackie @Pinkblueberry thanks every one seems I'm worrying to early I'll just go with the flow for now or at least try as you can tell I'm not the calmest pregnant person 😂

Second pregnancy, 32 weeks. Mine have never had a pattern but they were/are both super kicky babies so I didn’t worry.

May2021Mummy · 09/02/2021 21:01

@FudgeSundae thanks

I don't think it helps that I have an anterior placenta so I can't feel as much anyway

I'm 39 weeks and I know roughly my little ones pattern although it can be all over the place. I've ended up at maternity centre twice with concerns (24 and 35 weeks) but fine both times. Just remember that if you are ever concerned just give them a call mine were really nice both times.
It's not about having a set amount of movements it's about knowing their pattern, mine didn't settle into her rough pattern until the third trimester. I still worry about it now. I'm a FTM and have become a bit of a worrier, it's not easy 🙂

@Vicalam thank you and congratulations
