Substantial and snacky savoury things to pack for labour

As the husband won't be able to go in and out of the hospital and he is unlikely to be fed otherwise, what savoury snacks / substantial savoury options would be ideal for packing in our labour "snack bag"? I'll probably have a rummage in there too Grin

We will have a couple of sweet things in there for me to pick at, but more interested in what savoury bits and bobs you recommend?

Thanks! x

In my experience you won't want much in labour. For afterwards I'd pack nice cereal bars, biscuits, crackers, sweets, squash and some bananas. I was well fed on post natal but covid is affecting loads so I'd cover all bases.

Dunno about husbands, load of sitting around on their part, chuck him a tenner to grab some stuff while he's buying yours.

I had things like coated nuts and Pringles (didn't eat any of them though!).

Don't forget you can't have any fizzy drinks if you have an epidural, too.

A bag of tortilla chips and a jar of salsa (from the well known tortilla chip brand) from the crisps aisle. Take some cartons of juice for the sugar hit and a packet of biscuits.

Big fat sandwiches for him. You might want one after giving birth if you’ve missed mealtime too. Hard boiled eggs. Nuts. Cheese and apples. Cake.

Hope it goes well!

Not very nutritious but a pot noodle was the most substantial savoury thing I could think of that was just dried x

Following for ideas! In my previous labour's DH was allowed out to the shops situated in the hospital (Costa and m&s food) so never went without! Current regulations in our area are that 1 birthing partner is allowed in for duration of delivery and 8-8 visiting in post labour ward, but once 'in' not allowed out until next day, and can't see thst changing in 8 weeks before my due date...

I didn't feel like eating during my previous labours, post natally I'v heard from recent births in the hospital that mum is well fed (ahhh the post labour tea and toast...) and tea and coffee making facilities for birth partners.
At the moment we're thinking grab bag in the cupboard, water bottles, cereal bars, pringles, bananas and stuff in to make a quick sandwich like the pre made sandwich filler pots - DH is working from home so it won't go to waste, just get eaten for his lunches each day and ensure we've got enough in every few days

We will be packing protein bars and powder in travel towers too.

I packed a load of Nature Valleys bars, Pringles and Jelly Babies.

DH had mixed nuts, Pringles and doorstop sandwiches - I was induced just after Christmas so he had turkey & stuffing.

As I was induced and nothing happened the first 24 hours, he had to go home & come back in, so just brought more sandwiches the next day (with slices of Yule log!)

Bagels
Mug shots
Marmite breakfast biscuits
Cuppa soup

My husband requested pepperami, nuts and Capri suns. I was kept in hospital three nights after baby was born and the best thing I had were m&m crunchies and jelly babies. I barely slept and had an awful time establishing breastfeeding so craved sugar. We ran out of snacks as I'd also had a long induction so pack lots.

I wasn’t interested in food whilst in labour, but I would recommend some energy lozenges, I didn’t have any the midwife gave me some of hers, as I was getting tired after a prolonged 2nd stage of labour. Cereal bars sound good. I think DH got fish & Chips on the way home.
