Vitamin B6 and when to stop taking it

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone might be able to help.
I started taking vitamin B6 between ovulation and my period as I had suspected low progesterone. It really helped the spotting in between and lengthened my luteal phase by a day or two.
Anyway I finally became pregnant in November and have continued taking the vitamin B6 throughout as I heard it helps sustain the progesterone levels.
I’m now week 11 and wondering if I should stop taking it after the first trimester when the placenta takes over? I’m just terrified to stop taking it in case it causes a miscarriage. Just wondering if anyone might know what to do. Thanks in advance for your help xx

There's no need to stop taking it unless you have extra on top of a pregnancy multivitamin.

Following because I did the exact same thing and also got a BFP, but last week. My gut says the same as you but I've no concrete info

@Chelyanne I am taking extra on top of my multivitamin so I’m currently taking 75mg. The max recommended dose per day is 100mg so I am under the allowance so maybe I should just keep taking it?

@8dpwoah it’s difficult to know isn’t it. They give all the advice to help you get pregnant but not what to do after.

If you're within the max rda keep taking it until you run out, I wouldn't bother buying more.

Think I weaned off about 15 weeks in the end.... reduced dose and took it every other day until I felt more confident.
I remember being worried about it but it can’t really do you much harm to keep taking it. At 12 weeks placenta takes over so progesterone not so needed.

Chances are it’ll make no difference I imagine - although it lengthened my luteal phase I’ll never know if it helped with falling pregnant I guess?

I was taking high-dose B6 to try and lengthen my luteal phase and stop spotting then had the same concerns as you once pregnant and also wanted the supposed anti-nausea properties. But I felt so nauseated I couldn't take the tablets - even cut up. So I stopped at about 7 or 8 weeks. I still got a small dose of B6 from my TTC vitamins (tiny smooth tablets so I could take them) which I stopped at 12 weeks.

How long did you take it prior?

CountryGirl84 · 28/01/2026 00:04

Hi yes all was okay and I had my boy in Aug 2021! He’s now a very active 4 year old.
I ended up taking the B6 all the way through my pregnancy as heard it was good for fetal development. I think it’s better to keep taking it just in case. Wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy xx
