Anyone any recommendations for best gifts after birth...for the mum perhaps. Have a couple of friends who are due to give birth in next month or so . Am buying the baby a jellycat teddy but would like to get a little something for mum too. (They seem to have a lot of baby clothes)

Champagne and gower cottage brownies. She’ll love you for it!

ShirleyPhallus · 06/02/2021 10:32

I would have loved some wine and decent chocolates. I know it’s a complete cliche but those first few weeks with a baby and especially if breastfeeding made me absolutely ravenous. So some snacks perfect for sitting on the sofa with those long feeds would have been lovely

I received a nice Neil's Yard bath oil called Mothers oil which was lovely (once I could have a bath after my c section). I also got a lovely motherhood mug. If you want to get something practical, a water bottle and travel mug is really useful for through the night. A really luxurious gift would be a new dressing gown maybe?

ItsAllOrangeAndYellow · 06/02/2021 10:35

An insulated travel mug, it was the only way I managed a hot cup of tea in the first 6 months! Also some home made meals that can be heated up and eaten straight from the box. Preferably with one hand (I had a velcro baby so had to do everything one handed for the first 6 months!)

blitzen · 06/02/2021 10:35

Oh and definitely all the snacks and chocolates!

I got my cousin some little pamper treats when she had her little boy. New mums need to be reminded to have a little "me time".

LalalalalalaLand123 · 06/02/2021 11:22

For the mum - maybe some kind of skin/pamper product for new mums? I think Sanctuary do new mum stuff. And/or food, snacks, treats. And I would have LOVED for a pre-made meal of some sort (casserole/lasagne type thing), or even some sandwiches lol!

My mum got me a beautiful array of gifts that included the following

  • lovely mantaray shawl for breastfeeding modesty
  • Yankee candle
  • yummy shortbreads
  • chocolate biscuits
  • fancy chocolate toffees
  • some lovely fragrant body soaps

It was so lovely to get when I got home from hospital

Some lovely shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Nitflux · 06/02/2021 16:02

I just bought my SIL two silk pillowcases. They're often not the type of thing you'd buy yourself, they're nice and cool on your face and they keep your hair less frizzy (she usually spends time on her hair and doesn't have that time now with three boys under 5).

FTM91 · 06/02/2021 16:21

A voucher for some nice freezer meals maybe, like Cook?

Moominmiss · 06/02/2021 16:25

Definitely second some gower cottage brownies!!! They are insane!!!

WhiskySour83 · 06/02/2021 17:32

A friend brought me a bottle of Veuve Cliquot when my son was born. Was absolutely delighted!

peachypetite · 07/02/2021 07:45

Snack hamper - M&S do lovely ones. I got so many presents for the baby it was lovely to get things for us.

ivfbeenbusy · 07/02/2021 07:53

Vouchers for LoveKeepCreate that way they can have something made out of the tons of clothes they have been bought! I had my DD clothes made into a lovely quilt for her bed and also a soft toy

wintertime6 · 07/02/2021 08:09

Food! The best presents I got were from the friends who dropped round a homemade lasagne or curry which we literally just had to pop in the oven. No thinking about cooking, very little washing up and nice to get a good meal. Might not be possible in Covid times but you could look into getting something similar delivered.

orangejuicer · 07/02/2021 08:11

A handmade hamper with goodies- hot chocolate, nice hand cream, socks, maybe soft cheese if she's a fan? She won't have much time to herself so anything to make her feel special and appreciated.

Spaghettiamaretti · 07/02/2021 08:48

My friends got me a hamper with lots of goodies in, there was dry shampoo a plenty (much needed!), bubble bath, moisturiser, a flask for all those cuppas that go cold, some comfy pyjamas and a new dressing gown. I can’t remember what else there was but I was so grateful for all the smaller items that I hadn’t thought to stock up on.

Heyha · 07/02/2021 08:50

I've still got some of the toiletries I was given after DD and she's coming up two years old Blush however the fizz and various food treats are long gone 😂

Respectabitch · 07/02/2021 08:52

My newborn gift is a Cook! meal box. Generally received effusively.

febel · 07/02/2021 11:40

Ah..plenty to go at thank you.

I think Cook vouchers are a brilliant idea, I really appreciated receiving those. I also got some cashmere socks which I loved and still wear 3 years on. I think anything that's slightly pampering that you wouldn't necessarily buy yourself works well. Not sure I'd have appreciated receiving alcohol though as I didn't drink any while breastfeeding.

MotherWol · 07/02/2021 14:53

Another vote for food - most people already have plenty of travel mugs, bubble bath and scarves, but food is always welcome!

omg35 · 07/02/2021 14:59

Prosecco or a cook voucher
