Hi everyone I'm currently 37+6 days and baby is breach. She been head down for the entire pregnancy but now is breach. There talking about booking c section. Just wanted to get everyone views on the procedure. As I suffer with bad anxiety and this is causing me a lot of worry and anxiety. If anyone could give me any info would be great. Many thanks in advance ☺

I found it to be a good experience after 3 natural deliveries.

The lower of our twins turned breech from head down somewhere between my 32 & 36wk scans. I was desperate not to have a cesarean as my mum had told me how terrible hers was with my birth. It was really relaxed, I did have heavy blood loss after so kept on recovery until 7pm (babies born 10:30&31). I was able to get up and walk after my husband went home at 10pm, did feel like a lead weight though. They took my catheter out the next morning and I felt fine walking down the ward for a shower and to get some lunch, I didn't require any pain relief. I was discharged later that day around 7pm and was able to do most things once I got home. I didn't do very heavy lifting, didn't drive for 6 weeks because hubby was home, could push double pram around fine. I did get an infection because my stitches didn't dissolve as they should but it wasn't painful and was cleared up with anti-biotics. I am thinking of going for an elective cesarean with current pregnancy, only 11+6wk atm.

I had an EMCS with my DD for failure to progress so it wasn't a trolley race emergency and was quite a calm and considered. I recovered really well and it wasn't a traumatic experience. I'm currently 20 weeks and I have an ELCS booked in for my due date but I will try a VBAC if I start off beforehand. The thought of another CS doesn't bother me but I'd rather not have the extended recovery when I've a toddler and a newborn.

An elective caesarean does not have to be a difficult thing. I've had 3 electives and 2 emergency ones.t
The electives were lovely in fact and I recovered well and quickly each time. Try not to stress overly. Everyone's experience is different but a breech vaginal is definitely more difficult.

Thank you all for your reply. Yes definitely do t want to deliver baby breach but just the thought of a c section scares me. Think it's cause its an operation and with my anxiety it doubles and the worse case scenario goes through my head. But it's really nice to hear your stories. Just can't help but worry and think I'm gonna leave both my kids without a mum. I'm petrified xx

it was fine, I had an emergency one so was a bit manic initially but the recovery process was okay. bit sore and I had a few issues with my blood pressure immediately afterwards but nothing major. you will need someone on hand afterwards I would say, i personally dont think i would of coped on my own at first - my poor partner had to help me into the shower initially!

cherrypop86 · 06/02/2021 15:59

I've had 4 sections. You'll be fine honestly. I've always found them to be positive exciting experiences. If you're worried, tell them beforehand and they will reassure you and talk you through the process while it's happening.

midnightstar66 · 06/02/2021 17:13

I've had 2 planned sections. So relaxed and straightforward. I think most of the bad experiences come from emergency sections where there's a rush and mum is exhausted due to hours of labour. I have never had a natural birth to compare but tbh I'm not sad about that.

midnightstar66 · 06/02/2021 17:16

And it's an operation yes, but one done under spinal anaesthetic whilst awake so much less risky than a general anaesthetic. The dr's do them every day so it's run of the mill to do an ECS

Fifilafrog · 06/02/2021 17:36

I laboured for 24 hours and then had an emergency c section. Despite it being an emergency, I was sooo relieved! I had really wanted a natural birth.

Having experienced all bar the pushing, if I'd had a second, I would have jumped at a c section!

What's important is that the birth, in whatever form it takes, is the safest for both you and baby. An elective c-section, I'm told, is an extremely positive experience! Honestly, it may sound terrifying but the surgical teams could practically do it with their eyes closed, relax and enjoy.

Have you looked at spinning babies? You might be able to persuade baby to turn back round again with exercises/positioning.

mouldyhouse101 · 06/02/2021 19:05

I had an EMCS but it was lovely

It is quite daunting at first. There are lots of medical team in the room and lots of beeping and noises, and I would say that's what freaked me out the most

It's bizarre in that you can feel all the tugging and pulling but not any pain

I had a specific member of staff dedicated to just sitting next to my head talking me through the situation, as well as DH sitting next to me, and that was wonderful

User0ne · 06/02/2021 19:29

I've had a emcs due to failure to progress (unidentified breech) and a vbac.

I'd choose the vaginal birth every time despite the fact that I found the emcs fine.

There are benefits to your baby to being born vaginally (for example the hormones they experience during labour do a lot to prepare the lungs to work in air) and there is less risk to you.

Is there a reason they haven't offered an ECV?(where they try to turn the baby)

charlou89 · 06/02/2021 21:22

No they have only offered a c section. She has been growing small and I have to have growth scans. But all they've spoke to me about is c section. At first it was induction as she was growing small but now she has turned and is breech there talking about c section xx
