Bump measuring small 25 weeks

I’m 25+4 and the midwife measured my bump at 22cm and said that it may be nothing to worry about but I should have a growth scan next week.

Anyone have an similar stories? What was the outcome?

My friend had to have growth scans every couple of weeks as her bump was small on her chart. Her bump grew quite a bit in the last few weeks and the baby was actually quite big when he was born.

So I would say try not to worry and just see how it goes. The charts compare you to other women of similar height/weight I think.. and some people will naturally be at the smaller end.

Also bump measurement and scans aren’t very accurate in predicting how big the baby actually is.

My bump measured small all throughout my pregnancy - had scans every 2 weeks from 25 weeks; had a daughter who was 7lbs 13 born at 39+5 weeks ... she's now 10

Currently 20 weeks pregnant with #2 and they're saying I'm extremely small again and are worried ...

I think because they're comparing you to others it goes on averages - where everyone is different and carries different etc

Thanks for the reassurance. I think I’m just extra worried as in my last pregnancy everything measured fine.

I am sure it will all be fine. The ranges they use are, by their very construction, averages, so there will always be many, many outliers.

I had very small bumps, and didn't put on much weight either, just the weight of the babies, and at scans for both my girls, they said they had very small heads, which worried me a lot at the time. Both girls were born naturally, just before term, at 6 10 and 7 3 - so completely normal. They just have small heads, like myself and DH, and come to think of it, small hands and feet too. That's just our genetics. Some babies look huge to me, but if you think of the rage of height, shapes and sizes in adulthood, why should babies be anything different?

the range not rage !

They'll just monitor you as long as your bump grows at a steady pace, doesn't slow down, it's all fine.
I had a one off growth scan with my 1st and regular growth scans with my 2nd and they were actually incredibly accurate as estimated weight. I'm having them again with my 3rd now, and again, whilst measuring a touch smaller than average, everything is growing at a steady rate along c9th percentile line so no real concerns!

My bump was just on the 10th percentile but didn't get growth scans as I would have had to be below the 10th percentile. She was 6lb13 at birth 38+6 equivalent to the 60th percentile for my chart.

My friend had regular scans for her DD after measuring small at the 12w and 20w scans. Kept measuring small for dates and going down on the percentiles. They were concerned and induced her at 38w and baby was 6lb2. They were expecting a 4lb baby.

I had a growth scan today! The sonographer tried to reassure me that just because I was having a scan didn't mean anything was wrong. But I already knew that!! She said they were almost routine these days because fundal height measurements are so imprecise.

I come from a sciency background (hint in my name) and replied it's because biology is almost more art than science (which is soooo true).

Had 4/5 growth scans with dd and they aren't even that accurate either as a one off measurement - more useful to look at trends. Not great when we're only measured four times during the whole pregnancy!! But that's another post.

Bottom line: growth scans = not an issue.
