Hi!
I’m on my 3rd pregnancy I’m 13 weeks, I had a miscarraige last year and my first born is 12 in March! 😱

Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has been or is in similar position with such a big age gap between children? How’s your pregnancy? How was it once the baby was born? Did your eldest cope ok? Just what was it like in general? I know my son will be the best big brother, I just can’t help think oh my god once this baby goes to school my eldest is going to be leaving school 😱 times already flying by as it is.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I'm 16 weeks, my youngest will be 10 when the baby is born. I am praying it all comes back to me because I honestly feel like a new mum again.

rebeccaeve27 · 04/02/2021 18:26

Ahh congratulations to you too!

I’m the same! I can’t remember the pregnancy, I feel like this is the first time all over again now I’m in my second trimester. I was pregnant at 19 the first time round and don’t think I took it all in to be honest now I’m 32 I’m a nervous wreck 😂

Your eldest will be fine and tbh they're more helpful when they're older.

Not in the same situation as we have many kids. We have kid aged 15, 10, 8, 5 (youngest are twins) and I'm 11+5wk with #6 (all being well). Our eldest changed a nappy on one of our twins lol, I know a few people who've had over a decade between children and it works well for them

PutOnAHappyFace · 04/02/2021 18:48

I keep thinking it will all come back to me, how hard can it be eh. Also completely in denial haha.

babyyodaxmas · 04/02/2021 18:50

I am 12 years older than my brother. I did loads of baby sitting.

xoxochellexoxo · 04/02/2021 18:58

My partner has a DD from his previous marriage who will be 15 in aug, i am currently 18 weeks with my first

serialplanner · 04/02/2021 19:49

My brother and I are 13 years apart. We both got mum's attention, I wasn't bothered when he was a baby as I had all my clubs and stuff and now we have really good banter and I can advise him on girls, career etc as an in between from my mum because who wants advice from their mum🤣

Taught me every gap can work. Good luck x

My mum had my brother 2 days before my 10th birthday - he is one of the greatest people in my life. We were so close growing up, I was involved in all his milestones and still remember them so clearly. When I left home, he used to come and stay for weekends and I’d treat him to all the things my mum was stricter about! He’s at uni now and we are as close ever. I’m pregnant with my first and it’s always made me wish for a nice big age gap so my children can enjoy the same bond. Congratulations OP Smile

@rebeccaeve27 congratulations! I'm currently trying to get my 9 month old to sleep and my other child will be 17 on Saturday.

Pregnancy wise I was more tired this time round, they treated me like a first time mum with respect to midwife visits (I was lucky to still have those). Biggest thing for me is how much baby kit there is nowadays compared to when I had him.

What lovely stories!
Thank you to all that have replied so far, it’s made me even more excited now ❤️❤️

Good luck @PutOnAHappyFace @xoxochellexoxo and @Chelyanne with your pregnancies ❤️

@Kayjay2018 I have felt extremely tired so far I’ve been having naps almost everyday and still getting a good nights sleep. Yeah I’ve noticed all the baby gear too, I’ve been saying to my partner I’m not buying into any of the rubbish!! 😂😂 And the price of prams!! I got a silvercross with my first, They’re double the price now.

Congratulations

@20PutOnAHappyFace I could have written your post I have a 10 year old but I'm 20 weeks. I too feel like I'm a new mum again and I am being treated as such under the consultant. I'm hoping it all comes back to me.

Op I can't comment on what's it like as I'm in the same boat but my sister is 15 years older than me and initially she didn't want my mum to bring me home from the hospital but it was only initial shock apparently she was besotted by me once they got home! It's been nice to have an older sister she's been like a second Mum to me!

Waitingforbabypage · 04/02/2021 21:01

This is my third pregnancy, my eldest will be 12 when this one arrives and my youngest is 8. (I also have a 4 year old stepson) so where I feel the age gaps are huge, and so much has changed since I last had to buy things for a baby- car seats! Car seats are SO different! For my OH it's only a 4 year gap and he's all chilled out about it.
The eldest isn't so thrilled about this baby, she seems to think I'm going to ask her to babysit all the time (no idea where thats come from, we've never mentioned it) but my 8 year old is well excited! Don't think it's really clicked with the stepson. It will nearer the time I'm sure.
My body hasn't coped so well this time around, I'm 22 weeks and the spd pain is real, the sickness was awful and the migraines I was getting were debilitating because I couldn't take my meds.

Ariana87 · 04/02/2021 22:21

Congratulations Smile

I’m 37wks so not sure how it will play out just yet but I have two DC’s 13 and 10. I tend to flit between the age gap being good as I’ll be able to focus on baby as my children are very independent but then I scare myself thinking will I remember how to look after a baby and wow I’ll have an 18yo when little one starts school. I have struggled throughout this pregnancy with fatigue, pgp and sciatica and glad this is our last as I feel 100 years old despite being 33 😂 I’m hoping older children will want to be involved with baby but they are at that age where they will probably find everything annoying lol

Itsjustaride8w737 · 04/02/2021 22:48

Hey op, I'm 20 weeks and have a 12 year old daughter.

I was only 18 when she was born, I'm now 30 and even more scared 😂. Dd is looking forward to (finally) having a sister!

Are you finding out the sex?

kirinm · 04/02/2021 23:50

I have a 2 year old and a 24 year old.

BirdyBee · 05/02/2021 00:05

I have a 20 year old a 16 year old a 2 year old and a 8 month old, finding it much easier with number 3 and 4! Biggest age gap is almost 14 years between number 2 and 3.

Weirdnessabounds · 05/02/2021 00:22

My two are now grown up but there is 11 years between them. Lots of the guidance around babies had changed in that time so it was a bit different 2nd time around. It was hard going back to the baby stage after so long, I’m not going to lie, but it was a bit like having two only children as they were at such different stages in their lives. The oldest one loved the new baby and once the youngest was old enough he followed the oldest one around like a puppy. Watching the older read the younger one a story melted my heart. They are still close now.
It did feel like I had been a mum to a young child forever as it was so drawn out. I think there are good and bad aspects to every gap size whether it’s a couple of years or eleven years so just enjoy the ride.
