Iron levels

Hey I’m currently 26+3 with my 4th and about 2 weeks ago I got out on 3 iron tablets per day as I was borderline on my blood levels - anyway I’m currently absolutely shattered (I know normal with pregnancy 😂) and currently getting heart flutters/palpitations - I’ve been on the nhs site and this is a sign of iron levels being low - I’m not sure if I’ve just not given the tablets enough time to work or maybe worth a phone call? I’m due to get bloods tested again in 2 weeks so would you just wait for another few weeks? Has anyone else had this ?

I was told that the iron tablets take 3 to 4 weeks to work so it might just be that you need a bit more time on them. I'd say it's definitely worth discussing your symptoms with your MW or GP though just in case.

Hi I think it does take quite a few weeks for stores to build up and increase your iron level so maybe just sit tight and see how your bloods are in a couple of weeks.

I've been taking them since for a little while too (now 39+1), I do feel better generally but like you said pregnancy is just exhausting anyway! Take care and I hope you feel better soon!

@SamoyedFan123 thank you / yeah it’s says 3-4 weeks on nhs site so maybe just a bit early to be having an effect - I will pop a message through to my midwife just so she knows

@Kittens97 ah thank you so much - yeah I think with only being on them for a few weeks it’s maybe just a bit early! Haha I know the main symptom is exhaustion/tiredness which is pretty normal carrying a baba around 😂 I’ve popped a message to my midwife anyway just so she knows and I get phone call off the hospital due to being diabetic so will let them know aswell - 😊

@Millylou3 I think that's a good idea, always best to be safe as we know our own bodies better than anyone else :)
