Just looking for experiences really. I’m 25 weeks with an IVF pregnancy. I remember my fertility nurse telling me once I passed 8 weeks and was discharged from the fertility clinic, it was just like any other pregnancy.

Fast forward to my recent tel apt with obstetrics who advised they manage IVF pregnancies a bit different and, of course as long as I’m happy, would prefer I didn’t go overdue either with induction or c-section. I also have extra scans booked at 30 and 36 weeks.

I’m fine with all of this but just a bit surprised. First I am hearing of different management.

Xx

@Evey43 as far as I am aware you will be treated absolutely the same as you were if you didn't undergo ferity treatment and the only thing really different is that they are more likely to induce you at your due date rather than to wait until closer to 42 weeks as I believe there is a small risk associated with being pregnant with an IVF baby at 41 & 42 weeks.

Also, extra scans are a bonus. You get to see your baby more than average :). I'm currently 29 weeks and have extra scans booked as LO has talipes which they can't do anything about until LO is born.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I wasn’t treated any differently during my IVF pregnancy. I went in to labour naturally at 40+1 but they would only have induced me at 42 weeks like other low risk pregnancies.

There's a placenta risk with IVF pregnancies, I did ask if this is due to ivf being more common in older mothers etc but the consultant said they'd excluded for that in the data. They can't make you be induced at bang on 40 weeks though, you can see how you go and have extra monitoring etc. I think 41 weeks will be my personal limit if everything else looks OK

Thank you for replying all 😊. I am low risk in every other way. I am looking forward to the extra scans as I thought that was it until little man was here. Nice and reassuring to hear others experience xx

Hi Op I’m currently 27 weeks with an ivf pregnancy and was told the same at my 10 week appointment with my consultant. After 4 previous miscarriages I remember siting there being advised that probably a c section would be the best option, I was completely overwhelmed by it all, especially as it was still such early days. It wasn’t until my 25 week appointment a few weeks ago did I get the opportunity to discuss it further and this time it was explained so much better to me and that it was still my choice and that I would just be monitored more closely and like you have more scans. I was told that a c section was my choice and so was being induced as if everything was going well they’d be happy to go with the flo. I think sometimes they get carried away with it all and forget there’s a anxious person on the receiving end. I was perhaps raise it again at your next appointment and let them know how you feel xx

I had an ivf pregnancy followed very quickly by a non ivf pregnancy, both pregnancies and deliveries were treated the same.
Congratulations x

Hi there, I’m 34 and have been offered IVF via the NHS after 2.1/2 years of unsuccessful attempts of conceiving. I really don’t know which clinic to choose. Has anyone any experience of the HEFA website? Or does anyone have any recommendations? I only know of the ARGC clinic but that’s a private clinic and it’s one of the best in the world. Any recommendations for NHS cringed clinics? Thank you in advance Smile

Teakind · 03/03/2021 08:29

@ThashG that’s great you’ve got funding! It seems to have been cut in so many areas which is such a shame. You’ll probably have more luck with answers if you start your own thread in the infertility board.

I just wanted to check are you sure you get a choice? I was sent to a specialist hospital in London for my miscarriages but I couldn’t have my IVF there for funding reasons as it wasn’t my local NHS trust. Was very frustrating as their success rates were good. It may have changed now though.

@Teakind thanks for replying sorry I’m new at all this will try and start my own thread. I’m fortunate that I’m

Teakind · 03/03/2021 09:31

@ThashG whereabouts are you based? Proximity is really important as there can be a lot of appointments to attend, some of them early.

It’s really great that you get a choice.

Teakind · 03/03/2021 09:33

Sorry meant to add, when looking at success rates it’s important to consider the patients they see. Some places can keep their figures looking better because they only treat the ‘easier’ cases.

ThashG · 03/03/2021 09:36

@Teakind I’m based in iver/Uxbridge area..... I’m sorry to sound dense but can’t figure out how to start a new thread either?

ThashG · 03/03/2021 09:48

@Teakind it’s ok I’ve managed to work it out and started a new thread like you suggested 🤞
