Cervical erosion cautery and then pregnancy

Hi all, I can’t find any information on this anywhere. I had cervical erosion several years before and had cautery done where they burn off the cells. I understand that if you’ve ever had a cervical biopsy (which I have not) you have a scan in pregnancy to check cervix length. My midwife reassured me that it is only a concern if you have had a biopsy (again, I have not), but I can’t help worry that having the cautery may have affected my cervix and therefore increasing the risk of preterm birth etc. Basically I want to know if anyone else has ever had cervical cautery and then had a baby (this is my first). Thank you :) xx

Hi @katiemumma20 I had cervical erosion that was treated in September 2020 with silver nitrate and also had a punch biopsy taken. While I was there I told the gynaecologist that I was ttc and asked if I needed to take a break to heal etc. He said there would be no problems conceiving straight away - we chatted about this at length.
I conceived in December 2020 and when I told midwife about the treatment and biopsy she said there would be no issues and I wouldn’t even need a scan for cervical length as it was only punch biopsy.
I’ve obviously not had the baby yet and am only 11 weeks but I’ve felt reassured by both consultant and midwife. The consultant is one I have known for a long time so I really trust his advice.
Hope that helps a bit x

I’ve had cervical erosion cauterised twice a few months before each pregnancy. Honestly if they’ve told you it’s not a problem I’d be inclined to trust them. Both of my pregnancies were healthy.

Thanks both! @Lemongrass9 I don’t actually know whether my cautery was silver nitrate or something else but I guess it has the same end result. Thanks for your advice, I am such a worrier at the best of times let alone with a little life inside me to worry about tooo

I had the silver nitrate at 20 weeks pregnant and all fine!

Silver nitrate is when they just put a chemical on it, the cautery burning off the cells is different. I was told I'd need that if the nitrate didn't work, I had cells removed for CIN2 which affected my cervix in pregnancy, but that's different to cautery. If you're worried might be worth a call to you consultant to explain it a bit more

Thanks to everyone who has commented since :) @annlee3817 it definitely classes silver nitrate as a type of cauterisation on the nhs website and says it is used to ‘burn off’ the cells but I might bring it up again closer to the time with the midwife. Thanks!
