Hi mamas, I'm due in 3 weeks and I'm planning a water birth but I don't know what to wear. Have no bikini and want to bf so need to get my tatas out easily. Any suggestions welcome. Hope you're all well.

I wore absolutely nothing!

ramblingsonthego · 03/02/2021 09:26

Just a vest top you can pull down would be the best bet if no bikini top available. Or a bralette.

reluctantlondoner · 03/02/2021 09:27

Nothing!

TeaPiglet · 03/02/2021 09:28

@Littlefish

I wore absolutely nothing!
Did you feel comfortable the whole time? I'm worried as I've got stretch marks everywhere and feeling a bit pudgy now too

I wore a tankini. Don't worry about being able to breastfeed in it as you'll want to get changed once you're out of the water into something dry.

Respectabitch · 03/02/2021 09:30

I wore nothing. Honestly, in proper labour what your body looks like is generally the last thing on your mind.

A crop top of some sort or maternity vest top would do just fine if you want to have something to hand. Hell, you could just wear a t-shirt, but the extra wet fabric annoys most people.

BabyMoonPie · 03/02/2021 09:32

I wore nothing. It was just me, DH and a midwife in the birthing room. To be fair I was in so much pain and so desperate to get the baby out I wouldn't have cared who saw me naked

apric0t · 03/02/2021 09:32

I wore nothing and didn't even have a water birth! Felt totally comfortable, I had brought some clothes with me but in the end was so in the zone was totally naked (and for several hours afterwards)

Mysa74 · 03/02/2021 09:34

I've had 2 waterbirths, packed a bikini for both, travelled in mat jeans and a buggy t-shirt. Ended up wearing the t-shirt for a bit the first time then decided I didn't care and took it off... They've seen it all before and it's amazing how freeing the water is. Naked didn't feel odd because I was "in the bath".
For me the water birth was the best thing ever, spaced my (induced) contractions out, let me relax and gave baby some wiggle room when she popped out with the cord round her neck. We unwound it before she came up for air if you see what I mean.

Meredithgrey1 · 03/02/2021 09:35

Nothing. I did have a t shirt on before I got in the pool but when I got in it was annoying so I took it off.

TheIblisHasspoken · 03/02/2021 09:37

I just bought a cheap, couple of sizes bigger than I wear, vest top, you really don't want to overthink it... just something to get on easily and back off quickly after little one has arrived!!!

SoupDragon · 03/02/2021 09:39

I wore a vest top with "secret support". I didn't want to be naked. A vest top is easy to pull down and close fitting enough that it isn't ittitating.

Bourbonbiccy · 03/02/2021 09:43

If you wear a loose vest top you can lower it down to feed, I thought a water birth was the best experiences.

I would take a couple of choices, then throw on what feels right at the time, although you may be a little bit short for time on the decision making.

Good luck ThanksThanksThanks

SamT210 · 03/02/2021 09:44

I bought a few nightie/shirts from primark, few quid each and went straight in the bin.

BloodyDarrener · 03/02/2021 09:45

I tore off my clothes as soon as I could. Like they were trying to strangle me Grin

It was so much more comfortable being naked but if you're really bothered I'd say grab a cheap bikini/tanking online.

laura2109 · 03/02/2021 09:48

Anything you'd find comfortable is fine, I'll go for a sports bra with no padding. But we'll see on the day how things go!

peachypetite · 03/02/2021 10:57

You really don’t need special clothing. I just wore an M&S crop top that I’d been wearing throughout pregnancy.

PrimeraVez · 03/02/2021 11:02

I started by wearing a bralette/crop top thingy but ended up completely naked after a while.

Thatwentbadly · 03/02/2021 11:06

I laboured in the pool (I wasn’t allowed to give birth in it) and I wore a bra. Low lights, in the pool means people can’t see much. Midwife ain’t judging podgy people - they see heavily pregnant women every day at work.

LittleRa · 03/02/2021 11:07

I was naked for my water birth with my first. Currently 35 weeks with my second and would love another water birth, would be naked again.

Pinkblueberry · 03/02/2021 11:09

Nothing - pretty sure the midwife said I had to take off all my clothes, but obviously I might not remember accurately.

Carouselfish · 03/02/2021 17:36

I second the vest top

IdesMarchof · 03/02/2021 17:38

Wore nothing at all

PFin · 03/02/2021 22:08

I just had a maternity bra on when I was in the birthing pool. I had a bikini packed but when I got into the room I just stripped off and jumped in no hanging around lol. Had hubby on stand by with a big towel, dry bra and a big t-shirt incase I wanted out, which i ended up doing. Tshirt would feel icky i think, just sticking to you then bottoms are pointless as midwife is constabtly checking you so i defo thought just a light maternity bra even just one of those crop top stretching type material ones was best option. Good Luck.

serialplanner · 03/02/2021 22:14

Thank you for asking this @TeaPiglet I had the same question.

May I ask the other ladies about the temperature? Are you hot/warm because obviously your body is physically busy or can you be cold?! Silly I know but just wondering!
