Hey I really need advice because I'm so not convinced everything is normal I have been onto doctors for 2 weeks about my leg pain in calf and radiating upwards its gradually getting worse and I have no redness no swelling just increasing pain in calf I've had bloods done as my doctor wanted me up to get this seen so I had oxygen saturation was good showing doctor that bloods circulating as should my bloods at hospital was normal so they gave me a one off heparin shot in thigh I went back today for the scan above knee and no blood clot detected was let go and was told they'll check up with me in a week and if symptoms and breathleness get worse ring back up
I'm 28 weeks pregnant 4th baby and already a high risk for DVT I'm just not convinced I don't have one in lower limb but was told they can't scan lower leg

If you are high risk for DVT, was prophylactic Enoxaparin not offered at your booking appointment?

Sassysez · 02/02/2021 22:40

No but I'm being offered heparin shots from this week until 6 weeks after baby's born if that's the same thing I'm just worried there's a clot somewhere and its being missed x

I am sorry you are going through this stress OP. I believe there is a specific blood test they do for blood clotting, did they do that for you?

goingflowing · 02/02/2021 22:43

It's called the d dimer I think

grumpypug · 03/02/2021 08:03

Yes, it's a d dimer test. If you are getting blood thinning injections then I don't think there's anything else to do, other than be aware of breathlessness etc as that is the same treatment for a clot.

Sassysez · 03/02/2021 09:51

Yes I think so I had a blood test and bloods was normal so they offered me a one off treatment of heparin injection x

Oh okay is that the same thing they use anyway to treat it x

Heya, they scan the upper leg because that's where a DVT's would be. You can get clots in the small vessels in the lower leg, but they aren't treated in the same way. You are being scanned in a week to see if any clot in your lower leg has traveled upwards, which will then be classed as a DVT.

overwork · 03/02/2021 10:05

I've worded that badly, but basically the clots in the thigh are a bigger concern than clots in the lower leg, hence some places only check the upper leg. From what you have said they have done everything correctly

YoBeaches · 03/02/2021 10:09

Heparin acts by breaking down any clots should they form so they can be processed though the blood stream. Many people live with lower legs clots that don't cause issues and usually this is where you have a diagnosed blood condition. aspirin acts as a blood thinner to reduce the risk of clots forming so you could ask if that is helpful too.

But previous poster is right heparin injections is the right treatment with or without an actual clot.

What makes you high risk for blood clots?

Sassysez · 27/02/2021 16:29

Sorry for late reply iv been so ill past few weeks I'm high risk for dvt in this pregnancy it's 4th baby iv had now had a vq scan and upper thigh confirmed no clots or abnormalitys still on heparin low dose injections but in past few days my upper front thigh is aching I can't walk properly on it and it feels slightly warm I can feel it where it is so I'm not sure if to ask for a second upper leg scan to make sure bloods came back normal and everything else I don't know if I'm just panicking it best to ask x

It's like the calf pain and aches have travelled up now to top of fron thigh if that makes sense x
