Pram carrycot instead of a moses basket

Has anyone used the carry cot from their pram instead of a moses basket while at home?

The carrycot is safe for overnight sleeping so i can’t see it being an issue but none of my friends or family have done this.

We are limited on space and i know they don’t get much use from the pram carry cot as they grow out of it so quickly so it seems a waste of money to buy a moses basket as well as the pram. What do you think?

Thanks

When i say at home i mean while we are in the living room downstairs, we have a snuz pod for overnight sleeping upstairs 😊

We used a pram carrycot for both my boys. Funnily enough it was the same 1970s leatherette carrycot that my DB and I had slept in as babies and been strapped on the backseat of the Austin in, not that we did that!! I think carrycots are much underrated these days, go for it!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/02/2021 20:13

We did this it was fine

becca3210 · 02/02/2021 20:13

We used the pram downstairs due to space (although he tended to prefer to sleep on me)

DuaLipaSuction · 02/02/2021 20:15

We did it no it was fine. We had a stand for ours. I think if I had another I would have had the carrycot downstairs and a Moses Basket by the bed.

GemSmith738 · 02/02/2021 20:15

We used to bring the top part of the snuzpod downstairs.

Great thanks, going to do that instead. Travel system was expensive so will be good to get more use out of the carry cot. Also means if he doesn’t use it much it can be put onto the pram out of the way

We did as it was bigger than the Moses basket and my DS likes to sleep with his arms over his head.

wheresmycrown · 02/02/2021 20:31

I used the pram and later the pushchair for naps for my kids

porridgeface · 02/02/2021 20:31

I did this on the couple of occasions he would sleep while not being held.

We have used the carrycot downstairs and a Moses basket upstairs. Saved buying extra or lugging the basket up and down stairs.

Radglags · 02/02/2021 20:43

We didn’t have anything downstairs other than the pram carry cot and I’m glad we didn’t waste the money as the baby wouldn’t sleep flat on her back anyway.
We did end up with an electric swing which she slept in during the day quite a lot (but only bought it when the ‘not sleeping on her back’ thing came to light) or she just slept in a sling / being held by one of us.

Never had a Moses basket. Pram/bouncy chair (or on me) downstairs and in bed with/on me upstairs.

She’s now a strapping 10 year old.

For downstairs yes it can be fine, my cousin does that too.

Personally... we always buy a travel cot. The ones with the bassinet are suitable up to 9kg, then the larger part to 15 or 20kg. They make a great play pen until they are big enough to climb out of them.
Small children can be a bit like a ball and chain not allowing you to get anything done so a safe place like a travel got is a life saver.

samanthawashington · 02/02/2021 21:10

Yes. Moses basket was never even slept in. Screamed the place down in it

Lullaby88 · 02/02/2021 21:14

Yes i did this, used the carrycot downstairs sleeping and moses basket was upstairs. Worked out well.

happymummy12345 · 02/02/2021 21:25

I never bothered with the sleeping downstairs during the day at all, I never saw the need or point. My son only ever slept upstairs in his crib then cot. We had a video monitor and checked on him regularly. It's different at night when you're asleep but in the day I don't see why they need to be downstairs at all.
And I hate Moses baskets so would never have one.
I used the carrycot from the pram for occasional overnight sleeps though

happymummy12345 · 02/02/2021 21:26

When weren't at home I mean

GappyValley · 02/02/2021 21:27

I did this, but ended up mostly using the sleepyhead for downstairs and upstairs sleeping as they always settled better in it

spacegirl86 · 02/02/2021 21:49

We did for daytime naps and chilling time. And took it for the occasional night away too. Very useful! We had no space for too much more than that so it was good that it doubled up.

LayingLow · 02/02/2021 21:58

My son didn't like moses basket so he slept in carry cot on moses stand all night. He's fine. Don't see the issue. They are actually firmer than moses baskets.

Fundays12 · 02/02/2021 22:02

I used my the carrycot for my pram for daytime naps for all 3 of my kids. First baby it was space saving but with the 2nd and 3rd the pram was much studier than a Moses basket which was safer with the other kids running around. Just make sure you pick a good carrycot thats long enough too last a few months.
