Help! Sore rib - feels like it's cracked!

Oh ouch! I have a really sore rib (bottom rib on the right hand side). I think the baby has been kicking it, but I swear it feels like it is cracked as it sort of 'jags' IYKWIM. I'm 35 weeks pregnant - is this normal? Anyone got any advice for coping with it? It's really uncomfortable - especially when my little aspiring Micheal Owen sticks the boot in too.

I've had that with two of my pg's, Potpourri. Bl%dy painful! But I think it's just the baby kicking and forcing ribs against each other. I found it was worse when the baby was in a certain position and used to try poking it to shift it out of the way! Sitting bolt upright on a straight-backed chair was the only other thing that helped.

Thanks chicks for your support. I'm really struggling with this, as I can't lie down to sleep or within 2 minutes I am in agony. Suedomim, I have also found that sitting really upright, stretched to the ceiling works - as well as politely encouraging the baby to move it's kicking target.

I have also developed all sorts of weird and wonderful ways to sleep now, lying on my stomach across our futon chair onto a bean bag with tonnes of pillows so that there is no weight on my bump. That gives me a couple of hours at a time, so I guess this is just nature preparing me for snatched sleep

It will all be worth it in the end..... it will all be worth it in the end.... it will all be worth it in the end....

if it hurt without the kicks it could be rib flare - stretch the arm of the side it hurt over your head. Also the kidney is just by the lower ribs and a UTI can hurt there without hurting to go for a pee.
I have experienced both, (UTI pain lower than rib flare) the last UTI was extremley painful whereas the rib flare has been uncomfortable with the stretching and walking around easing the pain. If it is rib flare it should ease as the baby moves further down the pelvis and engages - well that what I have been told by the physio and I have had less (now 34wks)

Hmmm, thanks scubamum. I really must get a book on anatomy - I am clueless about where everything is inside. I am seeing the doctor on Thursday and will ask her to check for UTI or rib flare. It could be a UTI as I do seem to be fighting one off alot of the time, but never have anything show up in my urine.
