I have recently been waiting for a job interview for a apprenticeship I'm only 5 weeks along so far, but I feel this will jeopardise this. Is there any advice? X

You don't need to tell your employer you are pregnant until around 20 weeks (it's actually more but can't remember the exact week).

You won't be entitled to maternity pay from your employer. That's worth bearing in mind.

I would carry on, don't mention it until you're legally obligated to.. which is I think 15 weeks before your due date, so 25 weeks!

Unsure if you would be entitled to maternity pay but most employers will pause your apprenticeship and if it's via a local college etc they would normally put you on a break in learning up to 1 year... so you can return afterwards. I wouldn't let it put you off if it's a position you really wanted x

No need to tell them.

You could qualify for maternity allowance if you work 26 weeks in the 66 weeks before your due date. Check the details on gov.uk

Don't tell them. I told some temping agencies and none of them offered me work. A friend said you don't have to tell them, so I didn't and was offered a job immediately. Her argument was that they're not allowed to discriminate against you because you're pregnant, so they don't need to know and telling them only puts them in the difficult position of possibly doing it without thinking, so if anything you're helping them by not telling them! Smile

Don’t tell them! I’ve just been through the same situation. Literally got offered the job late last night, I’m waiting to get the offer in writing then I will inform them that I’m pregnant. I’m much further along than you at 20 weeks

Okay I won't! But what if they think it's suspicious or think I have only joined due to me being pregnant?? I'm being really paranoid I think x

You might get Mat Allowance but not SMP if you are pregnant when you start a new job.

It might piss off new employer if you did get the job and then told them as they'd likely have to readvertise for your Mat Cover which will cost them! So it might sour their view of you. But OTOH, if you told them prior to interview, they might feel like they have to give you the job just in case you claim pregnancy discrimination as a reason for them not employing you.

It's a tough one!!

I went through it last year, decided not to tell in advance and didn't get the job anyway. I felt so relieved though, bizarrely!

I'm feeling the same kinda way of you now to be honest. I'm just worried I have the support and everything and a income but this job was a apprenticeship what was a good opportunity but then with me having 9 months that will not be anoth time to complete the course x
