8 weeks pregnant still no midwife appointment!

I'm 8 weeks pregnant tomorrow. It's my second pregnancy. I called my GP to book midwife appointment two weeks ago- it was an automated message telling me to leave my details and that I'll be contacted. After a week of nobody contacting me I left second message. Still nothing! Should I be getting worried?
I know I don't have any blood disease that's being tested for between 8-10 weeks pregnant, but surely my blood pressure and bloods should still be taken? Should I give it another week or try to chase up with the GP?

It seems my local hospital might not be doing maternity services anymore as the midwife hub number is from the big city about 45 min drive away Hmm calling the GP now.

All numbers busy.

10 weeks here before appointment

Smurftastic · 01/02/2021 11:42

Managed to get another number from the GP after calling them a zillion times. Appointment between 8-10 weeks here, but I'd expect to know the date by now!
After my first birth they forgot to mention my stitches were indeed infected and I had to follow up after suffering for MONTHS something I thought would heal on its own, so I might just not have a lot of trust in the local NHS.

I GOT THROUGH. Over 20 phonecalls but I got through! Thank you everyone. Just had to confirm my name (foreign) and it will be chased up for me. I have to say I was somewhat dramatically imagining asking my husband to fetch hot towels for the baby's arrival and someone sending for the carriage to get the doctor from the neighbouring village Grin...

Yay! Hope they get it sorted out for you

Seems early, even not taking covid into account. It was definitely 12 weeks booking in when I had mine, and scan was at 18 weeks then (the only scan)

Smurftastic · 01/02/2021 12:04

@mootymoo are you in the UK? First time my appt was at 8 weeks, I was at least expecting confirmation. Also no dating scan? My friends in Poland seem to have their first SCANS at around 8 weeks!

Nice guidance is within ten completed weeks of pregnancy

RunnerGirl123 · 01/02/2021 12:24

OP Google "your chosen hospital name + Antenatal" and there should be a hospital page with relevant numbers on. It might come up under maternity services. If you call the Antenatal number, they can give you a number for the midwifery team.

I think by 2 weeks you should have had a response/call with info on how your booking appointment will take place and when. So keep chasing it up either through your gp or directly with the midwives.

FoodandFelines · 01/02/2021 12:47

Might be worth contacting your GP reception to ask. At least you'd speak to an actual person. But even so, I think it's quite early still. I live in an area with excellent midwifery care and they din't want to hear from me before I was at least 10 weeks, which made me nervous as it's my first pregnancy and I had also read that the booking appointment should be done before 10 weeks. I called at 7 weeks to book an appointment for 10 weeks and they said it was too early to book me in and that I should call when I was closer to 10 weeks. I then did have the booking appointment at 10+1 and the dating scan at what I though would be 12+4 but I was dated as 13+2 based on the scan. The screening for chromosomal abnormalities (Down's, Edwards, Patau) is offered at the same time as your dating scan (what most people call the 12-week scan), which usually takes place between 11-14 weeks. They will book you in immediately if you're past 12 weeks and still don't have a date for the scan.

Glad you managed to finally get through to someone and get it sorted.

In my area it’s always done between 8-9 weeks. I’m only just over 6 weeks and even though I’ve not contacted my midwife (who is based at my GP surgery), I had a text message from her today asking me to book an appointment with her for 8 weeks and telling me she’s sending out a booking in form for me to complete and bring with me. She wanted to know which hospital I want to birth at as there are 2 local ones.

She’d found out through my doctor who I saw on Thursday for high blood pressure!

I just told her I’d phone and get myself booked in. I was waiting until after my private scan next Sunday 😂

Equimum · 01/02/2021 14:27

I would call to follow up, but our Trust is asking you not to self refer until 7 weeks, and to only call to make an appointment at 8 weeks. My first appointment will be at 10.5 weeks, followed by the scan at 12 weeks. I am pretty sure I was around ten weeks with my previous babies too.

Smurftastic · 01/02/2021 14:36

It seems to vary wildly between counties. My first booking appointment was at 8 weeks exactly, just over 3 years ago. I'm glad I got through, at the very least I know they got my message.

Second pregnancy here, I didn't book in until 10 weeks and it didn't affect anything. 12 week scan bang on time too.
MumToBeMaz · 01/02/2021 16:19

I'm 10+2 and had my first telephone appointment with my midwife today. She took my medical history and immediate family history. I won't be seeing her face to face until Friday where she will take blood/urine sample and provide me with some leaflets about pregnancy and some vitamins. She mentioned that they do the chromosomal testing at the 12-week scan which they try to do schedule in between 11 and 13 weeks. (NHS Lanarkshire)

readyforroundtwo · 01/02/2021 16:32

I had my booking in appointment at 10 weeks but didn't physically see a midwife until 16 weeks.

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 01/02/2021 16:41

Round here they don't see you until 10-12 weeks but if you're really bothered go to surgery and speak to the receptionists face to face and tell them you want an appointment

Andthenanothercupoftea · 01/02/2021 20:51

I had an absolute bugger of a time trying to arrange my booking appointment. I ended up being seen when I was 10+5 (after several weeks of constant chasing!!) I ended up having to go in at a couple of hours notice. Didn't exactly fill me with confidence for my care going forwards ...

Funnily enough they'd booked in my scan after I first made contact, but didn't tell me until my appointment.

I'd chase if you haven't heard back in a few days.

kent1991 · 01/02/2021 20:57

Feel free to chase. I have my booking app at 7 weeks and scan will be at 12. I had to self refer through my local hospital trust website my go wouldn't do it.
I have a history of miscarriage so possibly being seen slightlu sooner. My local hospital website says booking apps should be done before 10 weeks latest so not sure i agree with people saying you wont be seen before 11 but know all areas different xx
