Hi

I'm 33 wks pregnant with DC #2. I keep getting awful pains in the top middle of my bump. It feels like my flesh is being ripped apart. I can't remember these with DD so thought I'd ask - does this sound familiar with anyone?

Going to aquanatal tomorrow so will ask the MW then.

Sounds like they could just be stretching pains. I've been having them recently and there pretty uncomfortable! Think your doing the right thing speaking to your MW tho. Better to be safe than sorry
Hope everything is OK as I'm sure it will be x

Hi Kelix

Asked the MW today and she said maybe the baby has turned breech and that it's a hard head hurting me? Hmm not sure about that as it feels like my flesh hurting rather than a hard lump pushing against me but hey ho I'll just wait til a wk friday for my next appointment when they feel my stomach etc so will know more then.

Touch wood, it's not hurting today so it's eased my worrying a bit.

I had and still have similar things, been going on for weeks now. I'm 34 weeks. Had same with DS1 as well but I don;t think it lasted as long. I think it's the skin or something stretching, don't believe all this about the baby's position or kicking me in the ribs... bloody uncomfortable but don't think it's anything to worry about.

oh and by the way I have found that it helps to try and numb the pain with an ice-pack. I've got one of those eye masks from the Bodyshop that I keep in the fridge or freezer and put that on there, especially in the evenings.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I've been having lots of pain around my rib area that seems to get worse later in the day and is particularly bad if I'm sitting down a lot (which I do as I have a computer based job!)

I find a hot shower tends to help, but the best thing is to get one of those birth balls/gym balls and just lie over the top of that, so that your knees are on the ground and your head is flopping over the other side... seems to stretch out something in that area in a good way that gives me a few hours of relief!

thanks for the tips ladies, I should use my birthing ball more than I do.

I'm glad the MW saw no need to worry, they do know what there talking about sometimes

I went to see mine yesterday and baby is lying horizontally across my belly! The skin around my belly button feels like it could break at any time as it's that thin and I still have 9 weeks to go!

Sometimes it's so hard not to worry with everything that goes on in pregnancy!

Some good advice and tips from everyone, might have to invest in one of them balls myself

I sometimes wonder if my little one is transverse (across me) as well as often I see both sides of my belly stretching outwards with arms or legs etc.

My ball was from JJB Sports for a fiver!

I'm also 33 weeks and having exactly the same pains - my consultant said to me yesterday it's most likely ligaments stretching and all perfectly normal. My baby is breech at the moment and it's head is probably pressing quite hard against my skin. Just been for a growth scan this morning and my skin on my tummy is so tight that it actually hurt a bit!

welcome to the aching bump club RS!

Think I'll push for a growth scan if MW thinks the baby is breech at my next appointment. I've got an underactive thryroid which can lead to bigger babies so would feel happier getting it all checked (scanned) out!
