Basically that. I'm dealing with a MC right now. 6w gestational age, discovered during 7th week. Deathly afraid of the misoprostol and the horror stories all over the internet yet don't want a D&C as I'm afraid of it causing scar tissue. I see the chance of adhesions is highest after a MC with this method. Things aren't happening like they should as far as my body "getting it" and I need to decide Monday how to handle it. Just want to TTC straight away. Good bad and ugly experiences appreciated please. How long did it take to get your rainbow? Are you still trying? xx

Hi @secondorange, I’m so sorry for your loss and what you are going through, it’s an absolutely awful thing to happen.
Slightly different but I had a MMC in the first week of lockdown one last year. As a result of covid restrictions, they made me try expectant and medical management and then when both failed I was finally allowed an MVA (under local). I must say, it was the best out of the three experiences. It was fast and not painful (I was so scared of the pain and wanted the general anaesthetic but they wouldn’t allow that), I would honestly do it again should, god forbid, I had to choose. I too was worried about any damage that could be caused but the odds are really low. I went on to conceive our rainbow next cycle of trying and am currently 34 weeks pregnant.
I hope that helps and so sorry again for your loss. I promise that things will feel better with time. Best of luck with everything that comes next xx

Hello OP, sorry for your loss. I've had three miscarriages, 2 were natural and I decided to opt for a D&C for the third loss as it had been nearly 2 weeks since I'd found out there was no heart beat (10weeks) and I was still sick constantly. The two natural ones took a bit longer to 'clear' from my system with the later one (11weeks) taking 8 weeks to get a negative hcg and stop spotting. I was offered the D&C for the third loss on the day of the scan but I declined it in favour of waiting. But as I said I got tired of the sickness without the knowledge there was something worthwhile at the end. I had negative hcg about 10-14 days later. I had zero pain and pretty minimal bleeding. The D&C was in May and by July I was pregnant with this baby -now 31 weeks. Good luck x

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Just to put a different spin on things. I've had medical management twice and it wasn't as bad as some of the horror stories I'd seen. Both were relatively quick for me, I was already bleeding so not sure if that makes a difference.
MC 1 - 11weeks from last period but baby was 6 weeks (had been spotting/bleeding for 3 weeks before confirmation). Heavy bleeding for about a week (more like a period for the last few days). Contractions for a couple of hours, not long after the pessaries. Spotting for a few weeks. Negative hpt after 3 weeks.
MC 2 (3 cycles later) - 7 weeks pregnant, baby was 6 weeks (had been spotting for a week, leading to bleeding). Heavy bleeding for a day or two. Strong period cramps but not really contractions. Spotting for about 10 days. Negative hpt after 2 weeks.

I avoided the surgical option because of worries of the "damage" it could cause. Maybe I am lucky the medical management worked for me both times, but I think it's worth a try if you do want to avoid surgery. Only you can decide what's right for you.

In terms of further pregnancies, I fell pregnant again 18months after MC 2 after a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, unfortunately ended at 20weeks after TFMR last year.
Pregnant again 4 months later, currently 12 weeks, crossing my fingers for tomorrow's scan. You're apparently more fertile for 3 to 6 months after a loss, and many do fall pregnant again in this time, but it's okay to wait before trying again if you don't feel physically or mentally ready. So sorry again, it's such a shitty thing to go through.

Sorry for your loss Thanks.

I had a mmc in April 19 and had an erpc surgical procedure. It'd taken me 8 months to conceive. I then fell pregnant again in December 19 (so after another 8 months of trying) and I now have a 19 week old daughter snoozing on me after her morning bottle.

So sorry for your loss.

Similar to others I've had two natural MC's and one MMC where I had a d&c.

My two natural MC's were at 6 and 7 weeks - they were heartbreaking and took a while to finish.
My MMC was twins at nearly 12 weeks. I couldn't cope with the thought of another natural mc - especially as it was during lock down and I was still working (healthcare professional) so I couldn't really take any time off.

I asked for a d&c which was arranged for me. It was done within 48 hrs. I had very minimal bleeding and no pain afterwards. I didn't ovulate the first month after d&c but I was pregnant again just over a month later. I'm now 28 weeks and everything has gone well so far.

If I unfortunately have another MMC in the future I will definitely request a d&c again.

I wish you all the best x

Sorry you're going through this. I have had a D & C before and for such a difficult time in my life, this procedure was quick and I would undoubtedly choose this method again if, god forbid, I ever had to. Before surgery I was given medication to soften my cervix which gave me an insight into the medical management and for me, that was the worst part. Chills and cramping. The surgery put a stop to all of that. Was treated so, so nicely and couldn't have asked for a more supportive process. Currently 8 weeks and have heard heartbeat. Took me 3 months. Good luck for whatever you choose.

I had two natural mc at 6 and 8 weeks and one medical one at 16weeks (baby was 15+4). Medical
One was in hospital delivery unit and the only bad thing I have to say about it is was having to leave with brand new parents and go in lift with them as all in one place even though we had a side room. It felt like a normal birth in that my waters went and I had about 40mins of intense cramps/contractions. Then it was over. Bled for about 3weeks after and had negative test 2.5weeks in.

I had a mmc a few years ago and opted for an erpc. It was very straightforward, quick and simple op and I dont remember any pain afterwards. I went on to have 2 more children after that and no further miscarriages. I had no problems whatsoever as a result of the op and would have opted for another one if I had another MMC.

Hi so sorry for your loss!❤

I had a D&C in June 2018, I apparently lost the baby at around 10 weeks but had absolutely no idea. Started bleeding heavily at 12 weeks and 5 days so was rushed into hospital where I was told I was miscarrying and they had to perform an emergancy D&C because my body wasnt passing the pregnancy naturally. I feel like it did slightly effect my fertility but hasn't made me infertile as I am pregnant now. Myself and new partner havent been actively trying but we also weren't using contraception and having sex on fertile days and its took almost 5 months before I've fell pregnant, when with every other pregnancy before the D&C if I've had sex on any fertile day I've fell pregnant straight away. So I have a feeling it did slightly effect fertility but it didnt stop me from falling pregnant again :) good luck, hope everything goes well for you xx

elliejjtiny · 31/01/2021 12:24

So sorry for your loss. I had a d and c a few years ago. We weren't going to try for another one but I was pregnant with a surprise rainbow baby 10 months later.

Grognonne · 31/01/2021 13:07

Had one natural, and two surgical management. Would definitely have the surgical management again if I am unfortunate in the future. Was over quickly, no pain, minimal bleeding. Natural was awful, so much pain, contractions, etc. Am now 25 weeks pregnant, so fingers crossed all will go well.

LittleTiger007 · 31/01/2021 13:29

I am so sorry for your loss. After my miscarriage I had a d&c as my body didn’t do it naturally and I still felt pregnant with all the symptoms continuing for a fortnight. They went in with a camera to see if anything was going on out of the ordinary as I had been trying to conceive for a long time. They found by doing this (a hysteroscopy) a fibroid and a little endometriosis... they removed both and I fell pregnant six weeks later. My body needed the six weeks to get back into a position to ovulate.
There were some slight adhesions which sorted themselves out in the early weeks of pregnancy with a small amount of period type pain as the womb opened up, stretched and unadhered. I’m at 24 weeks now and so grateful for that hysteroscopy.
Good luck OP Flowers

Hi there, I'm sorry for your loss, it's heartbreaking.

Almost a decade ago I had a MMC (discovered at 12 week scan, baby had stopped a month prior). I am frankly afraid of any kind of surgical procedure so I opted for the misoprostol, I stayed in hospital for it, and although it was not a good experience, it wasn't scary like the thought of a D&C. It was like a very intense period, a lot of bleeding, but I'm glad I did it that way. I would do it that way again if I ever found myself facing another MMC.

I had a rainbow baby after, conceived in the first proper cycle after the MMC. It has been said that one is more fertile after a loss, and I think there is some weight to that, as last year I had an early loss and fell pregnant the first proper cycle after that, too.

Teakind · 31/01/2021 18:48

Hi Op, I'm so sorry for your loss. I struggled to get pregnant in the first place and then miscarried my first three pregnancies. As it was hard for me to fall pregnant in the first place, I didn't want to risk having a D&C because of the risk of scarring and Ashermans syndrome.

I had natural miscarriage at around 6 weeks and it was like an extra painful period but no where near as painful as my medical management one at 9 weeks. I managed it with paracetamol and was physically ok quite quickly.

Babydust13 · 31/01/2021 23:08

Hi op sorry for your loss. I don't know if this will help but I had a MMC in June and opted to have the medical management basically you have it then after 3 weeks have to take a test to make sure it's negative before you can try again however mine was still positive and after a scan it was discovered that it hadn't worked so I opted for a d&c it was painless and over and done with quickly that was in July. I got my BFP in September and I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and all is going well looking back I wish I'd opted for the d&c first it would have been a much quicker process. Good luck
