Anyone been given cyclogest pessaries for first trimester?

I’m just under 6 weeks pregnant after 4 losses in 12 months and so far things are looking the most promising they ever have.

I take a high dose folic acid, high dose vit d, low dose aspirin (for recurrent losses), and this is the first pregnancy where tests were positive early on (8dpo) and progressed really quickly.

I was sent for a reassurance scan yesterday at 5+5 where we saw a heartbeat, something we’ve never seen before with any of the losses.

I was also prescribed cyclogest progesterone pessaries to use twice daily until 16 weeks.

I’ve put the first one in this morning. Just want to know if I should stay sitting for a short period after, or if I can walk about as normal. Also how long do I need to wait before I can go to the toilet without worrying about it coming out?

I’ve read the instructions and info that were in the pack but there’s nothing on this.

Sorry if I’m being really stupid 🤦🏼‍♀️

Also back in the summer, after my 3rd loss my partner and I were referred for fertility testing. I had day 3 and day 21 (progesterone) blood tests. My progesterone came back as 67, so a good level. I know they’ve given me the progesterone because of my recurrent losses, but can it do any harm if my progesterone levels were already ok?

Thank you ☺️

Sorry for your losses op and fingers crossed for you

I had IVF with DS1 and they give the progesterone pessaries as par for the course. My levels were also ok prior to pregnancy but I still had them to help the baby ‘stick’

Willow4987 · 30/01/2021 11:35

Oh and to answer your question, yes carry on your day as normal

Moominmiss · 30/01/2021 11:40

@Willow4987 thank you! That pretty much answers everything I needed to know!

I got through a lot of these due to an IVF pregnancy! Just insert as per instructions and then get on with your day as normal. You don't need to sit down/lie down after or anything and you can go to the toilet as normal. And no, the progesterone won't do any harm, try not to worry. Pantyliners are a good idea - you do get some pretty horrid residue (sorry not sure what else to call it) from them! Good luck 🤞

Sorry for your losses. I was prescribed progesterone for this pregnancy (3 early miscarriages 1 second trimester one) and so far so good (23 weeks now). The pessaries are really messy so get all the panty liners. I was on them only once a day so I was using them on an evening, just before I go to bed.

Moominmiss · 30/01/2021 11:55

@SoonToBeMrs91 @MGee123 thank you both for the tip about panty liners!!! I thought I felt some ‘discharge’ or something come out earlier (sorry for tmi). Checked my knickers and it seems like it might be pessary related!

I’ve had a few IVF rounds and with earlier ones had progesterone pessaries (latter rounds progesterone injections) - I used to lie down/ prop myself up on the bed for 30 mins afterwards before going about my day as normal. Panty liners are definitely helpful as a PP mentioned too.

Mizzy19 · 30/01/2021 15:25

I did IVF and was initially on pessaries after positive pregnancy results. Initially twice a day and then as I was getting brown spotting, three times a day upto week 12.
I didn't bother vaginally, well started this way but it was more convenient to put it in rectally, then could just get on with the day otherwise it was messy vaginally.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 30/01/2021 15:31

I had them for about the first 12 weeks too (pregnancy following fertility treatment). My progesterone levels seemed OK but the attitude seemed to be "just in case", so I guess they do no harm and could do lots of good. I'd definitely also recommend the panty liners though. The pessaries "melt" and you do lose some residue.

Parkandride · 30/01/2021 19:21

IVF here, I used pantyliners and put them in before I went to sleep, then first thing and lay there for 15 mins. The waxy residue melts off so don't worry if that's coming out. Good luck!

Moominmiss · 30/01/2021 19:23

Thank you @Parkandride, yes I’ve been having some of that waxy white discharge/residue so have had to use panty liners. So glad I posted as I’d have never have thought of it.

Will put my next one in just before bed.

I also had them for 16 weeks, night time was fine, just before bed and no mess. In the morning, I used to do it first thing and go back to bed with a coffee as my consultant said to lie for 15mins or so after. Then got up, went to the loo which seemed to clear out the wax residue and then didn’t have a problem with discharge.

4 losses here, finally got put on 400mg progesterone pessaries for this pregnancy as well 75mg aspirin I also take vit d and 5mg folic acid, I'm now 22 weeks and can feel my little boy kicking me!!
My losses were at 6, 10, 12 and 16 weeks!! Im still on progesterone now and will be until 24 weeks!

basilsenia · 30/01/2021 21:09

Forgot to answer you initial question ... they don't do any harm! And I always put mine in at night 🥰

Moominmiss · 30/01/2021 21:19

@basilsenia thank you for your reassurance, and I’m so sorry for your previous losses. They’re truly heartbreaking.

I’m taking the same vitamins as you, as well as the aspirin so i can only hope along with the progesterone this all helps my pregnancy last the distance!

Congratulations!

Thank you and congratulations to you too! My best advice is definitely just take every day as it comes. I hope everything goes smoothly for you x

ellenpartridge · 30/01/2021 21:45

I had them twice a day after a miscarriage and I think they did help as am now 30 weeks. I just put them in and went straight about my day usually. Stayed lying down for a bit first of all but realised it wasn't necessary. They can't do any harm even if your levels were ok already.

Hi ladies, had anyone used Cyclogest pessaries from 7 weeks up to 36 weeks of pregnancy, or lets put it this way up to how many weeks maximum have you used cyclogest.
