Induction tomorrow...

Being induced tomorrow at 38+2 due to Insulin use for GD (very well controlled) and maternal age (I'm 42).
I was induced for my little boy age 3 and had a wonderful and straight forward birth which was very positive.
I'm obviously a little concerned due to Covid and hope I'm not in there too long and that DH can be with me.
I'll be having a balloon induction if anyone has any positive recent experiences to share?

Private scan said baby is a girl, 2 hospital scans have also said girl (although final 2 growth scans baby had legs tucked in front of genitals and they couldn't tell) Convinced they're wrong - obviously either would be much loved and wanted but I get terrible anxiety when people give us very girly gifts! Lol.

Just after a hand hold I think....feeling a bit detached and isolated due to lockdown.

Understandable that you are anxious. Don’t waste space worrying about gifts - that sounds like you’re trying to distribute your anxiety about!

I hope it all goes smoothly. My experience of hospital for non-covid things recently has been good - smooth and less waiting about in the non-covid areas.

I hope your husband can be with you but if he can’t, you will still be in the right place with the best people for your baby’s safe delivery.

A new baby sounds so exciting right now! I wish you lots of joy with her or him!

Oh bless! Such anxious times.
Just wanted to let you know that I had a positive balloon induction in November due to health complications. I am also an older mother and it was my 3rd baby with quite a gap.
Insertion of the balloon wasn't painful just felt pressure when solution was used to inflate it. It wasn't long till it fell out when I reached 3cm and I was having mild contractions. At that point they were ready to break my waters and call my husband to come in. After the waters were broken it took under 2 hours for the baby to arrive.
I was very worried before the procedure as there was not much information out there, but very glad I chose it. I hope it helps.
Just think soon you will be holding your little baby! Good luck!

Good luck for tomorrow! I was induced at age 42, with my little boy pre-lockdown. I was convinced it would be long and slow like the induction with my little girl had been (36 hours), so after they stuck the pessary in, DP went for a walk for two hours then I went back to hospital and DO went home to look after my little girl.

I didn't see him from 5pm until 3.45am, when things suddenly ramped up and I phoned him to leave DD with gran and come in. He arrived just in time when I was 7.5cm dilated, I gave birth two hours later! It was perfectly timed really.

I just wanted to say that doing the early part of the labour without my DP was actually really great in my experience. I was able to do my hypnobirthing stuff, walk around, I watched a film, listened to music, slept . Without worrying about him being bored! Somehow I actually coped a lot better without him (I didn't actually mean to wait until active labour to call him, but I was coping so well the midwife refused to believe I had "got anywhere " and I had to beg her to check dilation at which point she said, "oh my, you need a labour room pronto!")

Anyway, I hear what you're saying about feeling isolated but try to spin it on its head and think this is a chance to really get in your birthing zone, use all your relaxation techniques, distract yourself with stuff you've downloaded on your phone . It could be a really empowering experience. Best wishes xx

I went in for a balloon induction in May. They were able to break my waters without the balloon and contractions started two hours later with baby born within 4 hours, active labour was just over an hour.
I was fine on my own for the initial stages.
I agree with PP, not having my husband there at the beginning meant I could concentrate on me and not worry about him feeling he should have been doing something.
Good luck!

Hello and thank you for thinking of me 😊
Our little girl was born yesterday morning and I'm tucked up in my own bed trying to wake her up to feed her atm.
