Resting heartbeat raising quickly

Hi Ladies. I am 14w 3d and experiencing a huge raise in heart beat fairly quickly. My normal resting would be 60-62 but even after short bursts of activity or a walk my heart rate raises massively to 100-110 and higher which would normally be a serious workout level non pregnancy. I feel fine and am normal bmi, fit. Should
I be concerned? If I then rest it’s back to normal quickly.
Thanks for any advice. I am 40 so on 1/2 aspirin due to age and increased risk of high blood pressure due to age and first pregnancy.

It's worth speaking to your midwife about if you're concerned. Lots of women experience this though along with getting lightheaded. They might want to rule out other things first though before putting it down to a pregnancy symptom.
High heart rate doesn't harm the baby though - I have VT and my heart rate is often around 200 beats for no reason.

@toughluck thank you. I think I will send a message to the midwife to check.
Thank fully it settles quickly if I rest for a moment.

It would be worth checking out.
My resting HR was usually 52-56 before pregnancy, I was ultra fit. It rose and rose, and even the slightest walk would raise it to over 120 during my first trimester - I used to be able to run a 5k without it reaching that. I stopped wearing my fit bit in the end as it was just stressing me out knowing!

PurpleCurtain · 30/01/2021 09:47

@Mrslouu - my understanding is that it's very normal. I'm 17 weeks and mine is the same... very easy to get it to 100/120. I mentioned to my midwife and she wasn't the slightest bit concerned and said as long as I wasn't feeling lightheaded there's nothing to worry about.

Chelyanne · 30/01/2021 10:18

Max heart rate is 220 minus your age.
A hard workout is 80-90% of max
Medium is 70-80%
Light is 60-70%
Very light 50-60%

A large jump from resting rate doesn't indicate a problem. The lenth of time it takes for you to return to resting rate after exercise is an indicator of your fitness level.
Advise about a max heart rate of 140 during pregnancy is outdated too. The breathlessness test is a better indicator for intensity level, you should be able to talk during/after exercise. Medium level should be fine if you're fairly fit, if not stick to light and below.

Length, missed that one

Mrslouu · 30/01/2021 14:10

@BlueLionel @PurpleCurtain @Chelyanne thank you that is very helpful. It is raising above my normal running level but if I rest for a couple of minutes it does drop to normal resting level.
I have my 16 week appt soon so will mention to midwife but thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Thanks ladies.

@Mrslouu your post made me curious again and I have dug my Fitbit out and worn it today. Before pregnancy my resting HR was about 52, it had gone to about 57 by 12 weeks, and up to 72 by 20 weeks. At this point I stopped wearing it because I was getting massive spikes as soon as I did anything and it was stressing me out. Today I've been working from home so mainly sat on my arse all day and pottering about the house, resting is about 90 and over 120 as soon as I move! My blood pressure etc has always been ok at every checkup so it seems all good. Hope you're doing ok Smile

Mrslouu · 02/02/2021 18:10

@BlueLionel yes I about the same. My job is quite pressurised so I text the midwife today and she said it was probably due to the excess blood pumping round but to get my headaches checked. Off for the flu jab tomorrow so hoping the nurse may oblige.
In the meantime just trying to manage stress levels and doing more yoga. How are you?

I had this in both my pregnancies, I sit at 100-110 resting. I feel absolutely fine and DS1 was fine and current bun in the oven also fine. My MW sent me for an echo scan just to rule anything major out so perhaps ask your MW if they would consider doing the same for you if you’ve not had it already.
You’ll be fine, it can be normal for some x

Mrslouu · 02/02/2021 18:16

@mumandcub thank you. Off to see the midwife next week for routine stuff so will mention, thankfully feel fine. X

I had twins 2 weeks ago. Before pregnancy RHR was 67 by 35 weeks it was 96.
Just going up the stairs or any kind of minor activity heart rate would increase to 120 or more.
I was in hospital a lot on monitors etc and my heart rate was usually 100-110. Hospital said that it was fine
