When did you go into labour with number 3? Was it easier?

DS1 I went into labour naturally at 36 weeks
DS2 I went in to be induced at 39 weeks, pessary wasn’t inserted properly but was already beginning to dilate so they left me to it and I laboured naturally with a short labour. 4 hours from first twinge to baby being born. 43 minutes of actual established labour.

I’m 31 weeks with #3 and I know labours and births are so unpredictable. I’m keen to avoid induction (prone to high blood pressure near the end of pregnancy so my consultant has said induction is a possibility).

Also concerned about DP missing the birth if labour is faster than no.2. I know this is probably unlikely even with restrictions but there is nothing I won’t worry about.

Baby is measuring quite big so I’m hoping she can make an appearance a week or two early but I have a feeling she’ll stay put, which is fine as long as she doesn’t cause too much damage on the way out.

Another thing I’m worried about is after both my previous 2 babies I’ve either had retained placenta or blood clot that has caused massive bleeds and both times been quite traumatic to rectify. I know it won’t necessarily happen again but because DS2 came out so quickly I was told that was a possible reason for the massive bleed. I’m trying to mentally prepare myself as much as possible.

Anyway I’d love to hear your labour / birth stories for #3 and if / how they differed from previous births.

My third was the easiest of 5!

A few people have told me that number 3 tends to be the unpredicatable one

Mine was a couple of days before due date, 5 hours from first contraction to end, gas and air only.

My previous two had been 12 hours established labour after days of stop/start. 3 was a dream for me!

Ariana87 · 29/01/2021 12:26

Just thought I’d bump up the post. I’m expecting baby 3 too.

First came 13 days early, second came 9 days early. Will be 37 weeks tomorrow. Scary to think both previous babies were born within days of where I am now and really hoping I don’t go over as not been induced before.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 12:27

My third was later than dc 1 and 2, but soooo much easier

Ariana87 · 29/01/2021 12:27

Oh forgot to add with my second as soon as my waters went baby arrived within 45 minutes so I have the same fear as you that OH won’t make it or I won’t make it to hospital

Santaiscovidfree · 29/01/2021 12:27

Dc 2, 3 and 4 all under 3 hours.. After pains were bad with 3 and 4...
Nobody prepares you for those ime..

Our 3rd was pretty easy.
1st I had full induction due to high bp which took 4 days 7.5hrs in delivery. 2nd I had a 6 day slow labor and 2hr19 after waters broken. Took 15 mins to push the 10lb 12oz chunk out as his shoulders got stuck.
3rd, contractions started on my due date. Went to hospital at 40+2 5cm dilated. After 4.5 hrs they broke my waters, she arrived just 11 minutes after that and only took a few pushes to get her out. She was 9lb 10oz and had the biggest head out of all ours lol.
Our twins were delivered by cesarean at 38wk as breech and transverse. 10+6wk pregnant again atm.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 12:28

Yes to the after pain, like full on contractions with dc5

Skylucy · 29/01/2021 12:29

Just to say @Ariana87 that as long as you and baby are thriving, you can of course refuse induction. I had a lovely birth with my last baby - he was a staggering 15 days late but arrived calmly and swiftly in the pool with no intervention, and just 8lbs 0z. Just talk to your midwife about options.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 12:29

@Chelyanne so you are having #6? I am too!

Santaiscovidfree · 29/01/2021 12:35

Dc 6 was 2 hours!! Still had my clothes and shoes on!!
Blush

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 12:36

Shock going to pretend i did not read that

Ariana87 · 29/01/2021 12:37

@Skylucy thanks, I’ve been reading so many horror stories on induction which is my own fault entirely. My second was a water birth and was a dream labour and birth. Hoping for the same although I’ve got sciatica this time so have been warned if it’s still as bad I’ll likely be refused a water birth incase of emergency and they need to get me out the water sharpish Confused

Fingers crossed. Nice to see other large family additions, congratulations. How far along are you?

I've had much stronger symptoms with this than a confirmed singleton I mc in July. Could just be a sign of a more viable singleton or twins again, I can't wait to find out at scan in 11 days.

trevthecat · 29/01/2021 12:56

1 + 2 long labours at 39+4 and 40+2 number 3... 38+3 waters went at 3:30pm in the school playground!! Nothing till 4am when contractions started. woke partner at 6, felt I needed to go in at 7:30am, car parked at 7:50, in a pool, babe in arms at 8:30am! No pain relief, no problems at all. Was home in time for tea!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 12:59

17+5! Fingers crossed all goes well at your scan!

Chelyanne · 29/01/2021 13:03

Thank you. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy Smile

I’ve loved reading all these replies!

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE a few midwives have mentioned that #3 can be the unpredictable one!
DC1 and DC2 were polar opposites really. DC1 was back to back, waters broke about 8am Saturday morning and he was born 1.30 Sunday afternoon, contractions had started pretty much straight away. DC2 was a dream. I’d love another birth like that.

My fears are not making it to the hospital, or just about making it to the hospital and giving birth in the car park or something.
I’d like to get comfy in my new nightie. I’m wondering whether those worries would make it worthwhile accepting an induction if I needed one. I love the idea of going into labour spontaneously though. I can’t win!

#1 40+5 - 72 hr hesitant labour - ended up needing syntocin and pushing for 2 hrs before she was born - 2nd degree tear.

#2 40+9 - 26 hr labour - needed syntocin at the end - Maybe 5 mins of pushing - no tear though!

#3 - 40+9 - 6 hrs from 1st twinge. Contractions only really painful in the last hr. Barely made it to hospital and was in transition when we got there. 100% easiest birth although very intense.

3JsMa · 29/01/2021 23:06

No1 spontaneus labour bang on due date
No2 spontaneus labour bang on due date
No 3 induction at 37+5 (broke my waters at 7pm,contractions started 30 mins later, baby born at 9pm).Send DH and DS home just before the midwife broke the waters as thought it will take ages. They managed to appear just when I started pushing.
