31 weeks tomorrow so made a list of stuff for hospital bag.

Where i am it is standard to stay 3 days after vaginal birth and 5 days after c section.
Online, the hospital recommends a small wheely bag to put mine and baby stuff.
BUT the list has a lot of items and what about diapers, postpartum pads, snacks? If i need 3 or 4 days worth this is the bag full already!!!!!

Partners right now are allowed only with a negative covid test (less than 48hrs old) and once in can't leave or won't be allowed back.

Anyone been there? How did you manage?
Did you just bring a big suitcase?

Obviously hoping restrictions will ease up when i give birth but the situation here is pretty bad (not in UK).

I packed a small wheely suitcase for myself and a large ish bag for baby. Dh or relatives can always drop off anything else you need

I had a wheel weekend bag, shrinks as you use stuff up so not as bulky or heavy to shift around. I managed to get 4 sets of clothes for twins, enough nappies, wipes, and ready made formula for a couple of days in there with plenty of space for my own stuff. I wore thin nighties and just had day clothes for going home. Make sure you have someone put your bag on a table or chair so it's easier to get to if you're sore.

After my cesarean with the twins I got them to discharge me the day after surgery. I had a big bleed but my iron levels were still within safe range so they couldn't argue. Never stayed more than 2 nights after a vaginally delivery and that was because of concerns for baby not me.

I had a wheely bag as described and the babies changing bag I had picked.packed with a lot of his stuff. Even if hubbys not allowed in at that time anyone can drop stuff off at reception and it can be taken upto you! Lots of people worry about space but midwives know babies take up alot of room with what they come along with lol

Take the nappies in the carry pack.
Use a small suitcase for you and a hold-all for the baby?
You need a lot less for yourself than you think you do!
Pads, breast pads, underwear, thin nighties, flip flops
Mini toiletries

Where are you that recommends such a long stay??

Oneandabean · 29/01/2021 10:28

I’ve packed for 3 days as recommended. Got a carry on size wheely case and all nappies/wipes/first outfit etc in changing bag.

SunnySideUp2020 · 29/01/2021 10:28

@Perfect28 in Latvia

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I think i wanted to have just one bag in case we need to move stuff around but will prob end up having one for myself one for baby and my DH do his own backpack.
And good idea about relatives if we really need something.

There is a shop/pharmacy in the unit to buy stuff but i am sure it will be ridiculously overpriced.

@Oneandabean
How many nappies, postpartum pads and wipes did you pack for 3 days?

It might not be 3 days. Just relax and stop over stressing about such a little thing in the scheme of things- seriously half the stuff you won't even use. What is urgent you can go to the hospital shop for- if it's overpriced, its overpriced, no big deal.

KyraGoose · 29/01/2021 10:37

I took everything in one big suitcase.

Oneandabean · 29/01/2021 10:39

@SunnySideUp2020 one pack of size 1 nappies, 2 packs of maternity wipes and one pack of wipes. Hopefully I’ll be out quickly but partner can bring extra if needed

YessicaHaircut · 29/01/2021 10:44

I took a wheely suitcase and a rucksack so I had my hands free. DH wasn’t allowed to come in to the hospital when I went in so I needed to manage it all on my own, while in labour 😅 This was in June 2020.
Take miniatures of all toiletries to cut down on space and weight, plus if you take snacks obviously those all get eaten. Don’t bother with many clothes for yourself as everyone just wears pyjamas/nighties around the ward.

Superscientist · 29/01/2021 10:49

I was in for 3 days, I had a weekend bag for me, a rucksack for baby clothes nappies etc and a bag for life with snacks.
I could have fitted it all into a bigger weekend bag but I wanted to be able to carry it myself so I went with 3 smaller bags which went down to 2 when I had eaten all my snacks!!

PFin · 29/01/2021 11:17

Newborns can go through 10 nappies a day so I would have at least 30 and if your in for a longer stay due to c section hubby can bring more. Defo do 2 seperate bags. Far easier to know where yours is and wheres babies. Means hubby wont have to sort through all your stuff when looking for babies. If he's anything like mine he'll not take no notion of what was needed or packed 😂

Youvegotafriendinme · 29/01/2021 11:40

I got everything in a cabin sized suitcase. That’s everything for me and baby for 3 days as well as a change of clothes and toiletries for DH (just in case) Then we will be taking a back pack for snacks.
DH is allowed in from the start of Labour at my hospital and is allowed to come and go as well as not needing a COVID test not that I agree with that
