Hi Smile
Just after some reassurance! I feel baby hiccups 4/5 times a day and they are so strong! Strong enough to wake me in the middle of the night and to worry that they are hurting baby as sometimes hiccups can be painful!!
I know hiccups are normal as he learning to breathe etc but have stupidly seen some articles about cord compression (thanks google) - sure it's nonsense!! Baby is moving around like normal!
Don't know whether to be concerned or not!

My DD had hiccups every night after my tea when I was pregnant. She had them around the same time each evening after she was born.

She's 20 now!

Oneandabean · 28/01/2021 18:08

It’s normal, as long as there’s no reduced movements

I'm 34 weeks and have had the same worry OP as her hiccups have only started this week!! Started as once a day, now it's twice or three times mainly after I eat!!

Like you I read scary things on google!! But I spoke to midwife yesterday who said absolutely fine! Only if baby hiccups continuously would it be a worry so I felt better!

34 weeks here, and I've been getting the same thing for weeks! Midwife said it's nothing to worry about at all. Now I just enjoy watching my belly bounce!

Same thing here since last week! I'm 34 weeks now and had one occasion where they woke me up and went on for about half an hour - cue the googling and American sites mentioning scary cord stuff! Followed by tonnes of UK sites saying its totally normal and just baby learning/developing breathing skills Grin

Funny thing is she is head down and I was feeling the hiccups in my bum!!!!! So weird.

Safe to say she is doing well and had my 34 week midwife appointment today to confirm!

DD was very hiccupy in the womb and still is as a toddler 🙂 if everything else is normal don't worry too much but you can always call your midwife for reassurance, they won't mind.

Pleased to find a recent thread on this. It's been happening daily to me for about five days (all since becoming 35 weeks) perhaps I didn't notice before but now it's a few times a day (including for the last 20 minutes after happening at 10pm) and all I see is that it shouldn't happen often after 32 weeks which isn't helpful when it ramps up in the last few weeks.

I don't want to waste time going to hospital for something normal but I can't help panicking every time the hiccups start as they last over 30 minutes.

I think I just need reassurance Sad

Dont worry. My DS had really strong hiccups in the womb. This would also wake me, like yourself. Once born he was a very hiccupy baby and would regularly get violent hiccups but this is really calming down now he is 3 months. They look as though they must hurt but he didnt seem to bothered , got a bit frustrated if they went in too long but otherwise just got in with it.

Dd1 was very hiccupy in my tummy. I used to i on antic as she didn’t move a lot, but would hiccup quite regularly. It used to make me chuckle and I felt closer to her as it was something different.
Dd2 never really hiccuped, she used to try and punch and kick her way out, ha!
They’re all different.

My dd hiccuped loads in the womb. She suffers with quite bad reflux now (20 weeks old), this can be linked.

So pleased so many people had it (hopefully from 35 weeks upward, too) I think once you read a horror story or two you always think "it's likely ok, but what if my baby is that one...) and there's that little fear each time.
