What happens at a c-section pre operative assessment?

I am just wondering if this is the midwife talking through what happens, or whether this is more me outlining my preferences - or both?

Confusingly I've been asked not to go to the hospital so have no idea how they will do my bloods/get the medication to me.

Has anyone had a similar experience/thoughts?

When I had a c-section back in 2018 they had all the women due for c-sections scheduled for the week ahead attend a seminar type thing. They went through a slideshow of what would happen and the schedule. We then got given our individual packs containing our personal schedule and time we were supposed to arrive at the hospital. We were also given the two medicines we had to take and the schedule of nil-by-mouth. I also had an MRSA test when I was booked in for my c-section which is a nose and groin swab. Had this come back positive they would have given me a special soap to shower with.

I was told to arrive at the hospital for 11.30am on the day of my section (I was last of the day because I was lowest risk) we waited in the labour ward waiting room for over 3 hours before I was called through to be prepped. Thankfully we had a laptop with us. Emergencies came in which obviously took priority. My daughter was born at 4.30pm so it was a very long day without food and water!

Meant to add, they also went through being able to have skin to skin etc which I did immediately after she was born. I went through my preferences with my midwife right before surgery. I also asked questions to the operating team. they were able to put the heart monitors on my upper back so my chest was free of wires for skin to skin. Not sure how things will go with COVID etc but I don't recall having blood taken at all up until the day of surgery.

I just had general weight/height check bloods taken and 2 lots of steroid injections before my elective cesarean. I was given time to ask questions but I didn't really have any. I didn't expect the bed to be tilted to the side, I had 17lb worth of twins in there so had to support bump with my hand as it was uncomfortable until the 1st one was out. They shift you in to position quick once the spinal is done. Weird pressure while they're rummaging around but it's a really calm environment so I just waited for my girls to be given to me. Odd thing I found was they gave me the 2st twin and the 2nd to my husband for skin-to-skin, a nice 1st for him out of 5 kids but all I could think was "give me my baby" lol.
I hardly even noticed much of what happened afterwards if I'm honest, I was totally lost in my little ones.

I had mine over the phone a few months ago with a consultant. It was mainly them going through what will happen, risks etc and then answering any questions. They also had access to my latest blood results from the midwives and sent me a prescription for my medication in the post. Good luck!

Thanks all. It sounds like each Trust takes a slightly different approach.

Mine was at the hospital- it's just to go through the process s and sign consent forms - we had to be there at 7am n the day but didn't go in until 2pm: they also give you medication to take the evening before
