Telling work (6 weeks)

Hello

Exactly that really. I was going to try and wait (working from home, I’m a solicitor) but I feel absolutely dreadful. We have high targets and I was working until half 10 last night just trying to keep on top of things so nothing suspected.

I’m pretty sure if they knew, they wouldn’t expect me to do that!

Have a scan booked at 8 weeks because it’s taken us so long to get here (nearly 2 years).

Haven’t told family or friends yet, my mum said to me years ago she wouldn’t ever want to know until after 12 weeks.

It’s very early days, I’m expecting something to go wrong, but then again I’d tell my boss if it did as I’d need time off to deal I think.

Any suggestions?

That is really difficult. Having had a loss (anembryonic pregnancy identified at a 9 week private scan) I was glad I hadn't told work - I still had 2 weeks off after it was surgically managed, but the sick note just said 'gynacological surgery'. But my company is project based so I don't have a regular manager. And this pregnancy I felt very well. If I'd felt really sick or exhausted I would have told them, I work in a similar job with long hours and stress. Could you wait until your scan so you can be a bit more confident everything is OK? Or is it needing to be resolved now?

Definitely tell your boss so that they understand and hopefully cut you some slack. State that if you don’t then you may need to take sick leave. I wouldn’t tell anyone else at work yet but the boss needs to know.
Good luck and I hope all goes well. Flowers

I told my boss the day after I found out as I needed a new risk assessment for my job. I'm glad I did as I terrible pregnancy sickness and fatigue in the first trimester and I had quite a few appointments during my first trimester due to being high risk and as they knew they were pregnancy related I didn't need to make up the hours

Thanks ladies, you’ve made my mind up. I’ve emailed asking for a catch up this afternoon- so hard with remote working etc at the minute!

I’m hoping I can FaceTime/zoom rather than over the phone. Had a shower at lunchtime just incase (though I still look and feel dreadful!)

Tell me it gets easier? Confused
