I'm a FTM too so just sharing what I have read. Different brands have different weights for size 0/1/2. 0 seems to be for premmies so start with size 1. Apparently 70 nappies a week is an average.

I have bought maybe 3 weeks worth (other people probably buy more) and I have bought 4 different brands to check quality and price.

I hope that helps.

Size 1 is ample for most newborns for the 1st few weeks, they can get through up to 10 a day. It's best to have a variety of sizes 1-3 incase baby grows faster than expected. Size 0 are for quite small babies so you're unlikely to need those if you go full term and baby is not measuring below average.
We ended up with loads of spare size one with our 1st as we had a boat load and ended up giving them away.

Mix and match! Get a few size 1s and a few size 2s (although unlikely they’ll be in them at first, they won’t go to waste!) You’ll probably find a certain brand you end up sticking with. We’ve just used Tescos’s own brand (Florence and Fred) and they’ve been absolutely fine!

I've used size 0 for all mine. My smallest was 6lb 5 and my largest 9lb 5

Size 1+

I had small nappies 0/1 for my first who was a big baby and they didn’t fit so I had to give away multiple packs, so I never got small ones before my second, the size I got for her were massive and my h had to go out and buy small ones the day she was born.
So I’d buy small packs of each of the smaller sizes and not plan ahead too much as you may need to buy bigger or smaller.

We went with size ones and she was in them for a month or so, as wouldn't buy loads though incase baby has a reaction to them

Wouldnt bother with size 0, very tiny! If you are expecting a small baby you'll be able to use size 1 for a bit longer. But size 1 should be fine for practically every baby to pack for hospital and do them the first week at least unless abnormally large. Pampers size 1 is 4 lb to 11lb then size 2 does 9lb to 11lb so theres a bit of an over lap too. I wouldnt stock up to much on one brand you might want to shop about and see what brand you like best. Pampers is more expensive and we ended up switching to asda little angels and were just as good. However, as baby got bigger we found these didnt hold up as well at night so used little angels during the day and pampers at night. Babies are alot of trial and error you need to find out what works for you. Dont worry too much about what size etc this is nothing a quick trip to the shop cant fix.

Pampers size 1 were huge on my LG (6-7lbs) as she was long and lean and they leaked like crazy! Honestly buy small packs of a few sizes and you can replace as needed. We wished we had more size 0, as they are so much harder to find in stock.
