6 weeks postnatal GP check up and vaccines

Hello,

With the current Covid restrictions, I was wondering whether newborns get their vaccines at the 6 week mum check up at the GP? Or does it all get moved to week 8?

Thank you in advance!

Newborns can't have vaccines before 8 weeks and they're usually done by a nurse. They're pretty precise with the timings of these things. I was sent home from my twins 2nd app of jabs because the nurse didn't think they'd had a big enough gap since the 1st lot.

It was always 8, 12 and 16 weeks and they aren’t done by a gp, it’s done by the nurse during the baby immunisation clinic at the gps usually. It was never 1 lot of jabs at 6 weeks.

As above, baby immunisation is started after baby turns 8 weeks old. All practices work differently but we would typically offer mum her postnatal check at 6-8 weeks and GP baby check at 8 weeks, immediately followed by imms with the nurse.

A lot of new mums opt to do this in a triple appointment slot if all is otherwise well, or we're happy to see them anytime if they have any concerns.

My check up & baby’s happened at the same time as her first jabs as PP says in a triple spot. She was 8 weeks and one day old.

Depends on the GP surgery.
We had it all done at a double appointment at 8 weeks, saw GP first and then saw nurses for vaccinations.
My neighbour is at a different GP surgery and she saw GP at 6 weeks then took baby back at 8 weeks for vaccinations.
Just call your GP surgery and ask.

At the moment we are doing a combined appointment for the postnatal check and immunisations at 8 weeks. So baby check with the GP then in to the nurse for immunisations.

Pre Covid we did baby and mum check at 6 weeks and then back for Imms at 8 weeks.

The immunisations can NOT be given even one day before baby turns 8 weeks old. And there MUST be at least 4 weeks (28) days between doses. They can’t even be given at 27 days for example.

All surgeries will do things slightly differently but ultimately imms should never be given before 8 weeks.
