Best fetal Doppler monitors?

Can anyone recommend or drop a picture of your Doppler machines? I want one for this pregnancy so my partner can experience my pregnancy more as he works away all week and will miss most appointments any suggestions?

None. You shouldn't use them unless you're trained to do so. It's easy to confuse what you're listening to. And also builds a false sense of security. Sorry but I'm a midwife and having had women have losses even after they've thought they've heard an FH on a home doppler I just wouldn't recommend.

I wouldn’t recommend one at all. Someone bought me one and I tried to use it but couldn’t pick up the heartbeat at all despite feeling movement.

I never tried after that as unless you’re trained to use one, they can either cause unnecessary worry or give false reassurance.

I have a pocket fetal doppler but can't remember the brand name, it's similar to what midwives use but lacks the digital display. I got it when pregnant with our 2nd following 2 mc's. They are good if you know how to use them well, not rocket science but they can cause distress to women if they do struggle to use them successfully. If you are likely to get distressed by not finding a hb then they are best avoided. It's quite easy to mistake other sounds for baby, especially earlier in pregnancy.

As a midwife I wouldn’t ever recommend them. If someone had collapsed in the street, you wouldn’t walk away after checking their pulse. Dopplers are the same: the presence of a heart rate does not mean everything is fine, and midwives train for three years to listen for different heart rate patterns etc to ensure wellbeing

None.

idontlikealdi · 27/01/2021 12:33

As above.

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2021 12:34

Do not buy one of these.

Mylittlesandwich · 27/01/2021 12:34

I was anxious in my pregnancy and my midwife said she'd rather see me every day of the week and actually know everything is ok than have me check myself and miss something.

Snapcat · 27/01/2021 12:48

I hired a medical quality one. It isn’t advised but after previous losses I found it helpful for me mentally to know they were still alive before I could feel consistent movements. I sent it back once I started feeling movement so there was no chance of me having it to reassure myself ok when in fact I should have gone to hospital.

GeeHO98 · 27/01/2021 13:14

Thank you everyone but I'm just asking for recommendations for those of people willing to give one not opinions, I'm simply buying one so my partner and daughter can feel more involved and experience some of my pregnancy not for reassurance. My aunt is a midwife and has offered to use it with me when I buy one while I get the hang of it if needed so it's of no issue for me.

For anyone new commenting can I only have recommendations please if you have one & thank you

My midwife has let me record the heartbeat a few times as partners haven’t been able to attend. Maybe you could ask if you can do that instead.

This topic is always going to have people advising against it, there’s been so many babies lost due to home Dopplers

GeeHO98 · 27/01/2021 13:57

@Oneandabean I haven't been able to do that this time unfortunately we're only having phone appointments and we don't know when this will change yet where I am, I'm not concerned with a Doppler I won't be using it often I used one with my first that I borrowed off a friend for a short while and all was fine just simply wanting recommendations for ones other mums found good to use

After looking on the net... I think mine is a sonoline, they only do the ones with the digital displays now (mine is over a decade old)

TooManyDinosaurs1 · 27/01/2021 14:13

If your aunt is a midwife just ask your aunt if she’s the one who will be using it with you? She should know. People are only trying to advise you on something which is generally a bad idea.
