Has anybody had this happen .. basically at a 4D scan yesterday the sonographer told me my placenta is 3cm away from the cervix ? It’s not covering it but it seems very close ? I had a growth scan at 28 weeks and nothing was said to me but now I’m worrying ... is there any chance it can move lower down to cover the opening ? How many cm does it need to be away from
The cervix ? Also can it move lower ?? So scary! The sonographer said to mention to the midwives but feeling a bit confused. I’m hoping it can move up but not down lower ? If it stays at 3cm away would that mean a c section?

The midwives will most likely book in an nhs scan to follow this up. The position will be important to your care.
A specialist in this area will be able to assess the safety of both natural birth and csection and advise you.

As for moving up or down, I've been told they tend to move higher as pregnancy progresses but I suppose that doesnt mean they dont move down.
Have you made your midwife aware already?

They should have picked it up at your 20 week scan, they did with me and I had to have it rechecked at 32 and 36 weeks as it hadn't moved. So I'd deffo mention it to them.

Mine was just 2cm from the cervix around 28 weeks. 90% of placentas move higher as the pregnancy progresses so my doctor wasn't worried. At 36 weeks they checked again and it was literally halfway up my bump. Please try not to worry. If it's not covering the cervix, then it will almost certainly move up as the pregnancy progresses.

I had placenta pervia with DD1 so was concerned for DD2, but was told that as long as it was more than 2 cm it was fine. Do follow up though, but I think you'll be ok.

The placenta will move up more as your baby and uterus grow. I don't think 3cm is much of a worry at this stage.
The lower of our twins placenta was covering the cervix at 20 weeks but had moved out of the way by 32 weeks, unfortunately she turned breech after that and I ended up with cesarean anyway.

I agree with other PP.
As your uterus streches upward so is the placenta. It will go higher in the next few weeks .

I had my 20 wk scan today. I have an anterior placenta which was 2.5 cm from the cervix. The ultrasonographer said anything over 2 cm was okay. He didn’t mention checking again but I have a growth scans scheduled for 30 wks anyway so I will ask about it then.

Unless this was done during an internal scan it will not be accurate. On previous scan reports it should say you placenta position like ‘anterior low’ or ‘anterior high’, at my trust, anyone with a low placenta at the 20 week anomaly scan gets recalled for a 32 week scan to check it has moved out the way and this is always done with a internal scan🙂

Don't worry, it's only going to go further away, not closer as the uterus grows. 2 cm away is the limit. I gave birth vaginally with the placental edge a distance of 2.1 cm from the cervix.

If you've been told to take iron supplements, do take them and eat a reasonable amount of red meat, if you want to do as much as you can to be on the safe side.
