Its about that time! We recently received a bedroom set for our upcoming new addition; a crib, changing table, and a dresser. We also have a bedside bassinet that will be in our bedroom.

I really haven't gotten into the decorating phase yet as I have no clue what to add as I am generally very practical in nature. I've been reading that some babies usually don't make the transition to a crib from a bassinet until about 3 months old. So my thought it, should we have the changing table in our bedroom while the baby is in the bassinet for those late night feedings/changings or am I putting too much thought into it?

I understand that baby planning doesn't always go as planned but for those who have kids already what are your nursery hacks? Also we do have a rocker/recliner but with the furniture I'm not sure if it will fit in our little nursery room.. do you think its practical to have it in there? Its currently in our living room.

Thanks!

Thank you @Poppins2016 that’s helpful.

I guess there will be some advantage to living in a small flat here too, wherever I go it’s only a few strides and no steps, so going into the living area at night or whatever won’t be a trek!

Perhaps my view of changing tables and babies rolling off is skewed by my years working as a paramedic.

I have four kids.

Caddy upstairs beside bed and one beside where I sit on sofa with nappies, wipes, a vest or two, downstairs one also with any oils or moisturiser I need, clippers, hairbrush. I have changing mats but I never use them, I find it easier to change the baby on my knee. I have never had a changing unit, but the ones that change into drawers after are a good idea if you want one.

Baby should be in your room till six months at least. My youngest two have co slept with breast feeding till much older than that anyway, so have rarely used cot or bassinet.

My older ones had bottles in the night so I used to keep cooled boiled water in the bottles and add measured formula from a dispenser for night feeds. But the advice has changed for making up bottles now I think, so I would probably use ready made at night if I was bottle feeding.

As others have said, I try to keep getting out of bed to the minimum at night.

I used the buggy downstairs or a travel cot for naps, travel cot then makes a good play pen.

Everyone does things differently so you need to figure out what will work for you.

You’ll be changing nappies 12-15 times a day probably, it’s so impractical to think you will go to the same location every time. Just slop them down anywhere have a few changing mats and spend the rest on some batch cooking.
