Question: Is the Ikea Poang chair good for pregnancy?

I'm beginning to get some back pain as our sofa's fairly soft and the sort you kind of sink into, which was great before I was pregnant and for the earlier stages of pregnancy, but as my pregnancy gets further along I'm finding my back hurts more and the sofas are harder to get out of. Has anyone used the Ikea Poang during pregnancy and is it any good?

I had it and I found it very comfy but it did slide around when I was trying to get out sometimes

Yes it was comfy for me all the way through and was moved into baby room for night feeds later on

We have this chair in a study/snug type room. It is very comfy and would make for a good nursing chair for nursery when baby is here. Im not sure if there is a matching footstool but would defo get one so you can have extra comfort and put your feet up!

I sat in the one in my sons room today, I find it very comfy but at 31 weeks pregnant I struggled to get out

We have this chair - I bought it as a nursing chair and loved it with my first child, however at 35 weeks pregnant I can’t sit back in it as I literally get stuck!!!!

Thanks everyone! I think i probably will get one to help now, and might just have to retire to the solid dining room chairs when i hit the 35 week point! Or employ a crane to help me get out of it from 32 / 35 weeks Grin

I wouldn't go for one in pregnancy! The back tilts back, you want to be sitting a bit forward in pregnancy - especially in late pregnancy. Sitting back is not good as it puts pressure on your spine and the baby's weight can swivel back so it goes back to back.

I also found poang hard to breastfeed in as the arms got in the way, but might just be me!

I have a yoga bolster that was great in pregnancy - you can straddle it, squat on it, or kneel on it while you lean on a yoga ball. Yoga balls are also good for sitting.

My parents bought one recently and unfortunately I find it the most uncomfortable chair in their house, I'm 30 weeks and it doesn't support me in the right place on my back and it's very difficult to get out of.

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 25/01/2021 09:35

I have one and love it! I find our sofa too hard and upright. Although it does lean back which apparently isn't great for baby's positioning (although I'm 36 wks and have been sitting in mine constantly and my baby is exactly where she's supposed to be apparently!)

I had one and thought I would use it as a nursing chair. I found it really uncomfortable as the arms are hard with big gaps. I had twins and couldn't tandem feed in it, but even when just breastfeeding one at a time I found it gave me no support.
I struggled to get comfy in it while pregnant and didn't even attempt to get in and out of it towards the end of my pregnancy. I'm sure I would have gotten stuck!

The Strandmon with a footstool is really comfy for nursing (you do need the footstool though). Would probably be good for pregnancy too as it's more upright.

Thanks for all the new responses. I do love the Poang chair but was worried about the back support and getting out of it, so will have a look at the Strandmon + footstool instead. I saw a Habitat armchair on Argos as well so might give that a go as it looks like it has good back support.

Thanks everyone - really appreciate the advice Smile

I am 5’3 and found the curve of the chair in the wrong place, I think it’s designed for taller people.

I am only 5'1 so this is probably why it doesn't suit me too.

Would an actual nursing chair not be better? They are generallly well padded, adjustable and offer good lumbar support.

Maybe - I'm 5'7 1/2 and love it!
