Process for statutory maternity pay?

Hi.

I've seen a heap of articles online explaining what stat pat pay is and who is eligible etc, but I've seen much less about the process by which it is applied for, and issued and according to which schedule?

I understand there is a MATB1 form that is completed by the midwife & I, but how does that go to my employer?

And then, what is the payment schedule and can it be flexed? Lump sump or divided into equal payments over x period?

Thanks team! Xx

U give the MAT form to the employer yourself. Just say u will need this for my maternity leave pay. I think u get paid monthly as usual but just less obviously

My statutory maternity pay was about £460 a month but I had left my job. If ur working presumably u get some wages alongside it also? I dunno how that part works

Your MatB1 form will be used by your employer to calculate your pay. The pay is calculated from the average of your gross earnings in the 8 week period leading up the end of your qualifying week which is the 15th week prior to expected birth date. (so usually 25th week of pregnancy)

It is paid in the usual way your wages are paid (weekly or monthly) you can't get a lump sum.

You will get MATB1 from your midwife and it's your responsibility to give it to HR / payroll by your 25th week. If you ask the payroll dept they will often give you your mat pay schedule.

Some workplaces will let you take your mat pay in even chunks (so total annual amount you'd have got, divided by 12 if you're paid monthly) as it's usually 6 higher weeks, 33 lower weeks, then nothing. However I'd rather have the money in my account and have a few months unpaid!

As we're WFH I just had to scan my mat b1 and email it to my boss with a company form confirming I wanted to return to work after. I ended up just photographing it on my phone rather than fiddle with my scanner!

You get given your form at either your 20 week scan of your next midwife appointment after that, my work wanted it ASAP so I called my GP and got it after my 20 week scan. You must give your form to your employer by a certain week and then they will give you a payment schedule for the 6 weeks at 90% and then the rest at the lower amount. As far as I know it'll be paid on your normal pay date
