Will second be preemie

My first baby was only born 8 months ago and I'm now 14 weeks preg with his sibling! He was 3 weeks premature and weighed 5lbs exactly. Is it true that this makes it more likely my second will be premature? Thank you

37 weeks is classed as term so I wouldn't class a 37 weeker as premature. It's impossible to say whether this baby will be born before its due date unfortunately!

Like above said 37 weeks is a term baby and 5lb isn't a bad weight for a baby born at that stage either. The biggest worry with a baby born before 39 weeks is the lung development. If you show signs of another delivery around that stage they could offer you steroid injections, they did that for our twins delivered at 38 weeks.
Don't worry too much about it, your current one may stay put longer and then you'll be fed up of waiting. Good luck.

Sorry my waters broke at 36+2 and managed to wait and be induced at 36+4, so was only slightly. Ah I see I have read so many other threads with people saying their midwives warned of an increased chance. Anyone had this from their midwife? :) Of course I can ask my own soon but not even had my booking appointment yet

My mum had my brother at 34weeks and went on to have another 3 of us on time or a few days early. Not sure about the chances but it’s definitely possible to go to term.

babyno2pending · 22/01/2021 11:38

@Chelyanne thank you I'm not too worried as like you sayhe wasnt too early and 5lbs was okay. They forgot to give him some antibiotics he needed so I had a bit of a horrible experience so I think I correlate that to him being early but obviously if it wasnt for that he would've been fine. Thanks:)

Also wondering this! My DS is 5months old and I’m due his sibling in September!

He was a brill weight at 8.9lb, just worries you when you read online that you could have early labour with the next one so close.

Congrats on your pregnancy x

Sceptre86 · 22/01/2021 14:59

My dd was induced at 36 weeks born at 37wks 3 at 5lb 10oz. When she was 6 months I fell pregnant with ds, same issues meant they wanted to induce me but I refused and went for daily monitoring instead. My ds was born at 40 weeks and 8lb10oz.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, enjoy your son and try not to stress about things that are outwith your control!

I wouldnt worry.

I just about made it to term with my first when I naturally went into Labour at 37 weeks, then I had a 30 weeker, but completely unrelated to my first (preeclampsia).

I am 23 weeks with baby number 3. I do have an increased chance of having another premmie, but only because preeclampsia reoccurs for some women.

Unless there were problems with your labour or something caused it to happen a little bit early I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you everyone :)

My first was 6 weeks early and so was my second, no apparent reason . My next 2 were bang on time and my last one was 2 weeks early. Not sure this helps at all!

statetrooperstacey · 22/01/2021 16:26

Forgot to say, My midwife said that being young was a higher risk.

babyno2pending · 22/01/2021 18:54

Thank you for your response I'm 23 so that could be a reason. Seemed to be no reason for me either so hopefully be okay this time @statetrooperstacey
