Pph with two births

Hi
I've have two children both I've hemorrhaged with, my uterus just dosent contract! Has anyone suffered this will more then one birth? I'm thinking of having another child but so worried about pushing my luck as I know its obviously dangerous to hemorrhage.
Also has anyone had a cesarean because of hemorrhaging?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thank you

I honestly wouldnt risk it. It sounds like a high possibility of its happened to you twice and your the most important person to two babies.
I'd speak to a doctor to get some medical advice if you want to pursue having a third

I had a huge pph (intensive care) and was warned a caesarean would be more risky.

I'd ask to speak to a consultant before you decide.

Laura67857 · 22/01/2021 00:06

So sorry to hear that happened to you, did you have any babies after your traumatic birth?

No I had 2 and the pph put me off but it was particularly awful. I remember before I checked out she said to talk to them if I got pregnant and they'd have me in hospital, lots of monitoring etc. She didn't
say don't at all...

But I remember her saying a c section wasn't safer. It was 9 yesrs ago though so def arrange to speak to a consultant as they'd be able to tell you what they'd currently advise.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 22/01/2021 00:11

There is a greater risk of pph with a lscs.

Laura67857 · 22/01/2021 00:21

Thank you, that's the thing I've never been told to never have any more..
Thank you for the advice il speak to my doctor. X

I've had two PPH and am currently 30 weeks pregnant with my third.

After the first PPH (horrendous and awful experience) my second birth was incredibly well managed. Yes I was consultant led - but they had blood on standby for transfusion and an IV in during labour to administer drugs straight away should I need it. After the second delivery I began to heammorage and they were well prepared to deal with it. And it was in no way as traumatic as the first.

Third time around - I'm consultant led again, same precautions as before. At no point was I told not to have more children, and a c-section was actually considered more risky.

I'm actually being induced at some point for different complications - but they are confident that they can manage it again without drama. And an induction can cause a slightly higher risk for PPH so it's more of a given that I definitely will need intervention.

Maybe speak to them beforehand and get some solid medical advice? My second baby was a surprise and I was in bits for months beforehand convinced that I was going to die in labour - but it was a really positive experience.

Zippity youve explained better than - that was what they told me would happen if I had another baby - c section more risky but that they would ensure everything was on standby so it wouldn't be such a crash emergency but a planned response.

Thank you for your reply, congratulations on your pregnancy! It's the first time I've herd from somone who's hemorrhaged with both births. I'm pretty desperate for a 3rd, is it best to contact my gp to talk over my concerns? I was consultant led with my last pregnancy the drip didn't work i hemmeraged but it wasn't as bad as my first. I wasnt to concerned with my second as I'd been reassured it most likely wasnt going to happen again but obviously it did 😔
It's just such a worry, it takes away such an exciting time x

A c section is considered more risky. I would see if you could arrange a phonecall with a senior midwife or an obstetrician rather than a GP to discuss. I don’t think it would be a reason to not have a third baby. I think they’d just be organised like a PP said in having cross matched blood and perhaps even a line for access in beforehand. And making sure your iron level is up before delivery etc.

GingerandTilly · 22/01/2021 20:26

I had two pphs. Also because uterus was not able to contract. First time very traumatic. Second time, everyone better prepared. Blood on standby, line inserted ready to pump blood in, lots of meds to encourage uterus to contract etc. I still bled second time around and it still counted as a pph but I lost nowhere near as much blood and I was nowhere near as poorly.

Laura67857 · 23/01/2021 11:18

Thank you for sharing your experience, yes I found the second time around not as traumatic as I didn't need surgery ect, do you plan on any more? Did they give you any feed back after your birth on their views on having more children? X

I haven't had 2 PPH but had 1 normal delivery and then a massive PPH with my second. Due to my age (I was 40 then) my consultant advised me to not have anymore children as it would be a real risk to my life. I was in intensive care for 3 days post birth and then HDU.

RememberSelfCompassion · 23/01/2021 12:30

Rambling I did icu and hdu too. I haven't met many people who have (noone in real life.) It's definitely a different start to life with a baby ...

Hi, how did you get on? Did you decide to have another child?
I find myself unexpectedly pregnancy with my third after 2 massive PPH's and I'm looking for others with similar experiences.
Hope all went ok!

Laura67857 · 29/07/2025 21:37

I had a 3rd baby but had a elective c section, amazing birth and really healed all my past birth trauma.
Good luck x
