Which travel system would you recommend for these circumstances?

I'm getting completely lost in the world of travel systems - there just seem to be so many out there, and such a range of options.

Any help or guidance would be very welcome. These are our circumstances;

  • We live rurally, so unlikely to use a pram for walks as we'd basically be hiking over fields so a carrier is more likely.
  • We'd be using the car, not public transport, so is it better to get a system where the car seat clicks onto the pram base? Is it a pain to transfer baby from car seat to pram?
  • Because I'll be using the car a lot, a system that's easy to fold and is lightweight would be very useful.
  • Would like to keep cost down if at all possible.
  • Baby is due in early June if that makes a difference.

I'm hoping to actually go to a store to have a look in person but goodness knows when that will be.

I've had a look online at Bugaboo Cameleon 2 and Fox, Egg special addition, Maxi cosi Adorra, Mamas and Papas Flip XT3 and Babyzen YoYo2, but have no idea whether which may be the best for us.

Do you have any thoughts or recommendations?

thanks!

I have no recommendations as I think travel systems are not the best.
Babies should not be left in a car seat for long periods and the click on systems encourage parents to not take them out.

Hiking great, you can get carriers that go up to 50lb, a good workout. You can get some all terrain prams if you find a bigger child too hard to carry.

We had a flat reclining stroller with our youngest 2 (twins). Limited space in a 7 seater forced us to go super compact, was very lightweight and maneuverable through most doorways despite being a side-by-side pram. You can get good winter muffs for strollers making them lovely and warm for winter and strip back to basic so they're lovely and cool in the summer. Cheap too so you don't mind if you need to replace them.

Agree babies should only be in a car seat in the actual car.

If you are clicking in and out get a car seat base they stop a lot of stress.

Do you want a compact pram?

Mackie2020 · 21/01/2021 17:28

Thank you both. I take I board that they shouldn't be in the car seat for too long.

I'm not sure about the compact - I would like it to be easy to manoeuvre, and fold down to get it in and out of the car easily.

I've bought the addora with compatible car seat, carrycot and bassinet. I'm only 36 weeks so not tried it with baby yet. The product seems good but I've found that maxi cosi information about what fits with what is awful. I had to return my original pram as the carry cot didn't fit on it even though the website said it did. Everything I've bought from maxi cosi I've emailed them first to check it actually fits together cos I've come not to trust what's on the website. I like the travel system as its three in one and should last the little one until she doesn't need it anymore, goes up until about 3 years old. It does fold down well. We managed to go to a shop and look at different makes, try them out and get advice. You've still got time, hopefully this lockdown will be over soon.

I recently purchased the ickle bubba stomp v3 which is compact and has a car seat that fits on the frame although I think I'll use the pram more as it says you shouldn't keep a baby younger than 10 weeks in a car seat for more than half hour at a time. It's on offer at the moment and comes in different colours it also has the isofix base for the car.

I got mine from Argos and they also have the ickle bubba v4 in stock at the moment which is slightly more expensive.

I'm super happy with the whole package and it was a bargain compared to some

Happy shopping

We've gone for the Nuna Mixx. I was lucky in that we managed to get for a look at our front runners in one of the small times the rules relaxed and I felt confident going out.
We live in a small town so most of our travelling will either be via car or walking on cycle paths etc. Although I 100% understand that baby should not be in the car seat for long, they do have a tendency to fall asleep in the car and if I'm just popping to a shop its far easier to be able to click the car seat onto the chassis rather than wake baby up too often. I'm hoping to use the carrycot part of the pram the most when I know I'll be out a little while.
We've also got a baby bjorn carrier to begin with for proper walks as we get out into the country as often as we possibly can.

I'd be tempted to just get a carseat and carrier for now and wait and see before getting a stroller. By the time baby is a few months old you'll probably have a better idea of what suits your lifestyle.

Bugaboo Cameleon or fox plus the Maxi Cosi marble car seat.

Have a look at the Jane brand, with Matrix carseat. It's completely lie flat, ideal if you can't avoid the car in the early days. I've used Jane for 3 years, very happy.

A range of strollers and great deals at the moment.

I have the cybex priam with the cloud z car seat. This car seat has a lie flat position which may car seats don’t have which is great if you want to use the car seat clicked into the pram for longer periods. It also spins on the base which is a lifesaver. It’s not the smallest of prams but the manoeuvrability is great.
