Smarting after bending in area prodded by MW

Hi, just wondering if I'm being a wuss and what you'd do... I've taken two paracetamol as it's that painful and feeling sorry for myself, if I was a child I'd be having the screaming teary thing. But I'm a big girl so not in tears but pretty sore!!!

A few days ago my MW did my 25 wk check up and tried to find baby. I found her prodding and poking quite rough but I'm sure she was just going about her normal business and I didn't say anything but she must have seen me wince as she apologised but explained she had to try and locate baby.

The area was at the bottom of my right side ribs as I said that's where most of my kicks were.

Anyway it was mildly sore yesterday, nothing too bad but this afternoon I bent over quickly to pick something up without thinking about it and where my bump compressed against my ribs it was extremely painful. I was very worried I'd hurt baby. I felt the area hurt and it was rock rock hard it must have been its head or bum?

It's still painful 6 hrs on so I've just taken the paracetamol. I am worried, this is my first. It's moving still so that's a good thing. Should I ring someone in the morning if it's still painful?

Definitely ring your midwife, no question is silly and you’re certainly not a wuss! I’m 24 weeks and have been getting twinges in my sides if I get up wrong but they’ve never been as painful as your’s sounds and no hardness afterwards. Hopefully it was just cramp and that hardness you felt was the displaced muscle clenched but if in doubt always give them a call!

@HotDiggidy2017 how are you so sure? Sounds like you're having your first to unless I've misread? The lumps and bumps are definitely the baby not muscle as that's what the MW was looking for.

Hey @SmartingSmarty,

I've had really bad pains in my abdomen - first round ligaments then managed to injure my abdominal muscles. My muscles are still sore there when prodded and then a day after kicks there are sore too.

How are baby's movements? I couldn't feel my baby by touching my tummy when I was 25 weeks and I started feeling movements at 16 weeks.

I went in for the pain and they monitored baby's movements and gave me codeine then sent me on my way. As you're worried, call and let them know. At the very least you could reasonably tell them you're worried and ask them to listen to baby's heartbeat.

I'm now 34 weeks and had plenty of times where I got up by doing a sit up or bent over in a silly way - I always worried myself sick over if I'd hurt baby but baby is really well protected.

I hope your worries are alleviated soon Flowers

@SmartingSmarty I didn’t say I was sure, I said ‘hopefully’ and twice recommended you speak to your midwife 🤷‍♀️

You bent over and you're worried that might have hurt your baby? The baby that is still moving normally?

By all means ring your midwife for reassurance and get checked because you are in pain.

Discomfort is an (often unmentioned) part of pregnancy - I've had 3. You have to have really quite severe injuries to your abdomen to harm a baby/foetus; I'm not sure that bending over too fast counts.

Obviously if you get any bleeding or severe pain you should seek medical attention immediately. Your post doesn't read like that's the case.

@BL89 & @ @User0ne as I'm new to all this I was just looking for guidance before I picked up the phone unnecessarily. Thanks @BL89 for being sympathetic and understanding Xx

My first baby got lodged up in that exact spot and it was eye watering agony! I honestly think he broke a rib. My guess is it's a leg you're feeling! No advice I'm afraid, as I don't think there was much to be done about it.
