Ketones in urine

Had a urine test done today for a non pregnancy related issue and she said I had a high level of ketones in my urine.
I have had quite a bit of morning/all day sickness (I'm 6+2) but not it's mainly just feeling nauseous and a lot of dry retching or bringing up a little bit. I don't feel like it's enough to have caused myself to accidently be doing the keto diet 🙈
I feel like I'm eating LOADS, however I did have a bad issue with food before getting pregnant (not anorexic or an ED, just took it a bit too far with trying to lose weight)

However, I want this pregnancy to be as healthy as possible. Does anyone have a similar experience or know what I can do to stop my body from doing this?

Thanks xx

Keep hydrated and keep in touch your doctor

It could be an early sign of gestational diabetes, they can send you for a test to confirm or rule this out (called GTT). Try your best to eat a well balanced diet, ensure you are getting enough calories each day and try to spread your meals out well with no more than 12 hours fasted from evening to morning.

@Chelyanne oh great 🙈🙈

I do eat quite well so I'll just see how I get on. She did say sickness is a factor.

@Chelyanne oh the 12 hours evening to morning is a big one. I usually don't eat after 6pm and I won't have breakfast until about 10 when I can stomach something (very nauseous in a morning) so that's a good tip. Thanks :)

I had them in my urine at 11 weeks and was told I was likely dehydrated.

I've been an intermittent faster for over 2 years and used to do up to 22 hours fasted each day. Burning fat causes the ketones so you need to ensure you are eating little and often to prevent it if you are strict with calorie intake. I've cut my fasting window down to 12-14 hours, I feel fine going longer but I don't want to put baby at risk. When I was researching I found long fasting can reduce progesterone which is not good for baby.

It’s more likely that it’s due to dehydration so keep drinking plenty and maybe speak to the doctors because they may want to do a blood test to check your kidney function. Also keep eating little and often like you have been!
