My hospital bag: enough?

I'm still holding out for a home birth, despite now being 10 days overdue

I have an emergency bag packed, which may soon become my 'hospital' bag. I've got:

Clean nightie
Spare big undies
Travel sized shampoo / shower gel / toothpaste
Toothbrush
Sanitary towels
Clean bath towel
Change of clothes for me
Nursing bra
Breastpads

Change of clothes for baby
Blanket
Few nappies
Hat

Sound like enough? I suppose DH can bring me things, but is that about right for now do you think?

take 2 or 3 nighties just in case, and a light weight dressing gown

get busy with the sex and nipple stim and visualisation, maybe ask for a sweep

You'll need paper pants (v sexy!) and quite possibly another 'bottom half' change for yourself. You also need at least 2 outfits for the bub as they'll probably throw up on the first one!!

Notquitegrownup · 29/10/2007 07:55

Change for the phone - no mobiles allowed in hospital.

peskipixie · 29/10/2007 07:59

no dont take paper pants they are awful! lots and lots of granny knickers ( i think asda do them 3 for £1).

dont think of it as a hospital bag, think of it as a labour and 3 days after birth bag. then if you want any thing while you are in labour or in the few days following you can just say bring me the bag and not bother having to describe where something is. so pack everything!

you dont have anything to keep you amused like books/ magazines/knitting. take a trip to the library, then you wont be bored and the walk might get things going! good luck

More pants than you think you need - you will need them! Do you know you will need special maternity sanitary towels, not ordinary ones? (don't know if this is your first or not - ignore me if it isn't!" For my second I just bought a whole lot ov very cheap big pants from tescos and binned them rather than paper pants.

Eau de cologne or another very light refreshing scent.
A book.
A camera.
A walkman.
Change for the phone and the car park.
A packet of biscuits.
Water.

peskipixie · 29/10/2007 08:01

oh yes, big fat kotex are good maternity towels, def nothing thin or plasticy, you will get chapped and thats not pleasant!

seeker · 29/10/2007 08:02

Oh and with my first I got told of for not having slippers and dp had to go out and buy me some!

Bed socks - my feet were freezing in labour!

A nightie you don't mind binning to labour in in case it gets a bit yucky, and a pretty one to chage into afte your post birth bath (which will be the most wonderful bath you've ever had!)

nappyaddict · 29/10/2007 08:28

flip flops
lucozade drink (with a straw so you can still drink when on all fours) and tablets
face wipes
antibacterial wipes (hospital bathrooms in maternity wards are not known for their cleanliness and i also liked to wipe up after myself when i dripped blood everywhere - sorry if tmi)
DARK nightie x 3
DARK towels
DARK dressing gown
lip balm or vaseline
arnica tablets
lavender oil to help you get some sleep
deodorant
facewash
hair brush, bobbles, grips, alice band - anything to keep your hair off your face basically
cotton wool
camera
watch to time contractions with
books/magazines
snacks
change
and not essential but i had make up to put on after i'd had a shower and it didn't half make me feel better

PregnantGrrrl · 29/10/2007 08:56

not my first- have got super night time pads (think maternity ones are rip off myself!) and a pack of sexy big pants from Sainsburys (can go straight in bin then!)

God i hope i don't have to go to hospital

Will get DH to remember camera.

Will pop couple of books in there too, and some wipes. Wish my IPod wasn't knackered- that'd be handy.

i got 12 for £1.99 in boots. they had wings too so you don't make too much of a mess.

nappyaddict · 29/10/2007 08:58

also baby wipes for yourself are good for making you feel a bit more refreshed down there. make sure you get the sensitive ones though.

MrsBadger · 29/10/2007 09:04

Food
Lucozade Sport
Water

seeker · 29/10/2007 09:44

And glasses if you wear contact lenses normally

PregnantGrrrl · 29/10/2007 09:46

thankfully laser eye surgery has negated that one!
