Itching in pregnancy

Hello, I am pregnant with my first child and only 8 weeks. I had severe itching in my legs last night and couldn’t sleep. I have just looked online and it says it could be some awful liver disease and to call the midwife?

However my partner has just tested positive for covid so we are isolating, I have hyperemesis as well and I’m so scared they will put me in a covid ward or just refuse to help me? I am terrified. I wish I hadn’t googles itching during pregnancy. What do I do?

Contact your gp or midwife if you have one. Speak to them about it. Try not to worry.

Speak to them definitely... hopefully it’s nothing but you can’t take risks if it’s your liver.

Just to reassure you that obstetric cholestasis is exceedingly unlikely to emerge before the end of second/ start of third trimester.

But still seek out gp/ midwife.

Yes as PP said, obstetric cholestasis rarely occurs before 28 weeks. I had it at 24 weeks but I was carrying twins. Hormone changes can cause non - serious itching earlier on.

Hiee... I have the same problem. I am 15 weeks and i have itching on my tummy since past 1-2 weeks. For me rubbing coconut oil (loads of it) on my tummy helps a lot. I tried moisturizers but coconut oil works so much better as it hydrates the skin deeply.

Yes hormones and increased blood flow can cause the skin to itch. You often see pregnant women scratching their tummy's. but if you're worried call your midwife or ante-natal support number.
