Damp Patches in Underwear at 12 Weeks

Sorry if this is a bit of a TMI post, but just wanted to ask if this is normal? So far I haven't had loads of CM, but when I do it's thicker and white or clear. The last few days I've noticed I haven't got any of the usual stuff, but that when I go to the loo I have a small damp patch. It doesn't dry white like CM would, but does seem to dry slightly cloudy if that makes sense. It's happened maybe 2-3 times a day the last few days. Is it just watery discharge?! Am worried about what it could be.

Yup. Normal. It'll just get worse too.

Sohe · 19/01/2021 16:49

I’m getting that too at 11 weeks! It’s so uncomfortable! X

MintGreenLife · 19/01/2021 16:59

@physicskate thanks for your reply. So it’s ok that it’s super thin/watery? That was my main concern as usually it’s creamy/thicker!

@Sohe ah the joys of pregnancy! May have to start wearing liners soon 😂

Omg I can totally relate to this...I'm 16 weeks. I had visions that my waters where trickling out. Spoke to the midwife who was like no it's normal. Just like you mine had always been thicker.

MintGreenLife · 19/01/2021 17:26

@Mrsmch123 That's exactly what I've been fretting about! Every little thing can be such a worry, especially when its your first and you have no idea what to expect! This has massively put my mind at rest though. I felt like my CM had stopped near enough and then next thing I know it's super thin and watery. Glad to know it's not jut me x

I'm 37 weeks and still get this, have had it throughout

LittleTiger007 · 19/01/2021 19:34

I’m at 23 weeks and still getting it

MintGreenLife · 19/01/2021 20:34

@Summerrp @LittleTiger007 thanks for your replies. Makes me feel better that it’s normal. Just thought it was odd as hadn’t had anything like this so far, but has been happening for a few days now

OP posts:
Summerrp · 19/01/2021 20:47

Everytime I have gone for a scan I ask if the amniotic fluid levels are ok and they have always been on track so I relaxed after that but was very worried to begin with

MintGreenLife · 19/01/2021 20:57

@Summerrp I have my 12 week scan on Friday, so I think I will ask then also. It's so hard not to worry over every tiny thing and wonder if it's normal or not!

OP posts:
LittleTiger007 · 19/01/2021 21:37

I think it’s just the vagina being extra ‘moist’ to keep infection away from your baby.

MintGreenLife · 19/01/2021 21:46

@LittleTiger007 thanks, I’m sure you’re right ☺️

Just wondering if anyone from this thread, or anyone else is still getting this/has experience with this? I’m 18 weeks now and still getting damp patches in my underwear. There’s nothing to see beyond that - no obvious discharge or anything, just damp patches. Feel like I hadn’t had it for a while and then had a fair bit today. Safe to say it’s been worrying me and I’ve ended up looking at a lot of threads etc on here today. I had a swab done last week as was found to have BV at 10 weeks but that came back normal. Is this just a normal pregnancy thing?!

katiemumma20 · 01/03/2021 23:35

I had very watery discharge from I can’t remember when but up until about 17 weeks. I did mention it at my 16 week midwife appointment and she asked if it was enough to need a pad which I said no to and then she just said it’s normal. Mine did tend to dry white though (but very faint white compared to normal CM) x

physicskate · 02/03/2021 07:23

As I said before: totally normal and likely to just get worse.

I'm 35 weeks and get it daily. Panty liners.

MintGreenLife · 02/03/2021 08:45

@katiemumma20 that makes me feel better - mine dries like cloudy/chalky white. I seem to only notice it on days I wear black underwear, so it must be quite minimal, just seemed to have quite a lot yesterday after I went for a walk and then carried on for a few hours afterwards. Don’t seem to have had any overnight, so must just be very watery discharge!

@physicskate thanks, I was a bit worried as thought it had a bit of a sweet smell yesterday. Best try and get used to it I guess or I’ll be worrying a lot!

katiemumma20 · 02/03/2021 09:19

@MintGreenLife mine was always worse after a walk! X

MintGreenLife · 02/03/2021 09:30

@katiemumma20 phew, OK sounds like it's pretty normal then! Have had a little damp patch this morn, so guess I can expect this for a while now... must learn not to overanalyse and worry every time I see it!

OP posts:
katiemumma20 · 02/03/2021 10:21

@MintGreenLife I was obsessively googling it! What put my mind at rest was that it dried white, there wasn’t loads of it, it wasn’t constantly trickling out or one really huge gush, it smelt like normal discharge (tmi!). And my midwife telling me it was normal aswell. And the fact that it would be very rare for it to be amniotic fluid that early. I did worry about it a lot but I worry about everything so it didn’t end up being one of the things I called my midwife or gp about I just mentioned it at my 16 week appointment. It’s such a hard call what to worry about though xx

WineInTheWillows · 02/03/2021 10:24

It's normal. Totally, entirely, completely normal. Buy, 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' and read it. And consider telling your midwife that you're having a lot of anxiety.

BlueberryPancake21 · 02/03/2021 10:33

My MW said this is really common. If it carries on or you get more it is worth mentioning to your MW though, particularly as you get further into your pregnancy. Around 26 weeks there was enough to run down my legs to my knees when I got up in the morning (sorry TMI!) and at that point they did do a test to check it wasn't amniotic fluid (it wasn't). It happened again a couple of weeks later 2 days in a row and they wanted to test again even though I was happy it was the same thing. They did say that most tests are negative but they still wanted to check to rule it out. Settled back into it's usual pattern now and I'm more comfortable having been tested, especially having had UTIs in early PG which can increase the risk of a leak.

MintGreenLife · 02/03/2021 10:47

@katiemumma20 I've been the same - when it's your first it's so hard to know what's normal and what needs attention! I hate the idea of bugging my MW loads too, so I always try and figure things out myself first. This sounds just the same as you though - happens here and there, not constantly, and dries a cloudy white. Thanks so much for putting my mind at rest xx

@WineInTheWillows thanks for your reply. I wouldn't say I'm having a lot of anxiety. This is my first pregnancy and think it's normal to wonder whether when your body starts doing something you've not experienced before if it's normal or not. I'll check out that book thanks.

@BlueberryPancake21 oh bless you, that sounds like an awful lot more than I am getting then! I think I really would worry if that happened. i've had similar worries as I had BV at 10 weeks, and that can cause the same risks as UTIs. I didn't have any symptoms with BV and it was picked up during a routine swab. I had antibiotics but was told it could come back within 3 months, so I have worried that it may have come back and I was symptomless again, but luckily a swab ruled that out. GP is going to test my urine today too to rule out a UTI as I had recurrent UTIs as a teen/in my early 20s. Will feel better when that's been ruled out also :)

BlueberryPancake21 · 02/03/2021 11:42

@MintGreenLife it's my first as well and you're right - everything is different and it's hard to know if you should be concerned. If you're worried it's definitely worth speaking to your MW as they can reassure you. What you are describing does sound normal though!

FWIW I've had UTIs detected at every MW appointment (and in between) despite being prescribed antibiotics 6 times - I'm now on a low dose antibiotic for the rest of my PG and tested clear for the first time at 35wks! I worried a lot about what having an infection for such a long time might mean but other than being sympathetic about the amount of pain MW and Dr seem unconcerned and everything seems fine with my baby. I hope your test does come back clear and the BV stays away but if it doesn't just wanted to say it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. Good luck!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 02/03/2021 11:47

Yep... I’m afraid I’ve had damp patches throughout.
It’s worst after I get up first thing in the morning, and after going for a walk.

MintGreenLife · 02/03/2021 11:48

@BlueberryPancake21 glad you understand :) I've been reading pregnancy books etc, but of course they don't have all the answers!

Oh poor you, that sounds horrible for you. Luckily so far all my urine tests at MW appointments have come back fine, but I have had a heaviness in my bladder for about a week now, yet finding I can't pee like normal, so GP wants to test just to rule it out. I'm also having my cervix length checked today due to having a LLETZ 5 years ago, so it's all going on right now! So glad your UTIs haven't caused problems with your pregnancy, not nice for you though x
